Giovanni, what were you thinking?

I actually know exactly what Giovanni was thinking, because I am psychic.

Unfortunately, it's in Italian. There's something about Saturday, and I think maybe the number three? Also there's some song he's got stuck in his head, but I don't recognise it. It goes "da da DA DA DA nah nah nah WOOAAH-OH" and then there's some electric guitar.

He wouldn't have had Alesha on the spot while he spun and spun across the dancefloor........

IMO he was doing the best he could with her.

She wasn't very good and had to distract people from her. It's not his fault at all. He's getting the blame for herr not connecting with the viewers.

You could be outstanding every week, but doesn't mean you will get the votes. I recall that on a lot of instances in the final when it' just the public vote that counts, that the couple that actually has danced worse has ended up winning... Darren,Tom, Chris, Louie and Jay

IMO the show is 70% likeability, 30% dance skill. The only way to be safe is to top the leader board in a non-final, if you are not, then you are in trouble. Laura could have been 2nd in the leaderboard every week but she wouldn't have made the final. And neither will Daisy.

Sorry

If we want to talk about showboating, lets talk about Kristina with John Sargent

I never thought I'd say it but I feel truly sorry for the guy. From having the temerity to post a photo on his "first day at work" saying he was happy to be there (the swine, how could he?) to being paired with a beautiful woman and subsequently being trolled, along with Laura, on social media and to top it all being slagged off in his own little area of worship! I wouldn't be surprised if he says a big "see ya" to Blightly and buggers off to DWTS. There's nothing for him here.

No. I've never warmed enough to Laura to post compliments on here about her, neither has she irritated me enough to post criticisms about her either. What has irritated me on here enough to post is in response to digs like this. Similar to having to respond to your continual digs last year of Georgia (not related to her dancing either)

Quite. And if anyone had to read through the threads and posts on here, they'd see that GG fans appearance on them is in response to digs like this, rather than them posting criticisms or negative stuff about Laura (or celebratory threads thats shes out for that matter either)

And even when we post on threads (there have been a few) agreeing that the trolls hassling Laura on-line is wrong (just as its wrong for the other celebs to be getting hassled too) so there is no arguement to be had on here about it, both threads ended up just being about criticising Georgia (pages of it). No surprises there.

Predictable. And I accept its probably petty to rise to the bait. But its hard not to.

I think it would have been better if he hadn't shown off that much. Judges and the public know that's a typical trick that pros do to distract them from the celeb partner. Less flashy more balanced is better imo.

I don't know why but it seems more noticeable when the male pro dancers do it.

What was Giovanni thinking? He was thinking that they would need votes that week to escape Bottom 2 and probably elimination. He was right.

Adding a bit of flashy dancing and, maybe, triggering a 'judges' comments are too harsh' sympathy vote might have bought them a few more votes, or simply made the dance more memorable. Probably worth a shot.

As it panned out, he should have ended with a great big 'illegal Samba lift' . On a hover-board. Why not.

I really feel for him too, he's my fave pro but this has all brought out an extra urge to just give the guy a hug! It seems like he can't win, I imagine if he hadn't showm off someone would have a go at him for that!

I agree with you that Giovanni went too far, so much so that both Len and Craig called him out on it. From the point of view of the viewers at home his ending the routine with such flashy spins was his biggest mistake when the focus should have been on Laura.

Hopefully he'll be careful not to overdo it again next series.

To be fair, Alesha was still in shot and appeared to be a functioning part of the dance. Matthew was not trying to either protect her or overshadow her.

Also, it didn't come right at at the end of the dance - which is the bit most people seem to remember and also the part that tends played in the re-caps. The impression left from the dance on Saturday was Giovanni twirling and Laura ... not.

It's like his spins fed into the energy of the dance whereas Gio's felt more ornamental

not from me though, I joined that thread because of Giovanni who is now my favourite pro and a superb dancer and choreographer and I hope he has at least one more year with Strictly

I'd love to see more pro dances too - and proper dances, not just the ones that they do on the results show - fun though they are. Seeing the Strictly Prom made me think this even more.

Ha! Quite! Ahh, I loved Alesha and Matthew - good times. I think the main difference here is the director's choice of camera angle - you can still see Alesha, even though she's not doing much at all, whereas poor old Laura was chopped out. That wasn't Gio's fault but a directing choice!

Quite - it would have had zero bearing on the outcome.

I'm not sure how much time you spend lurking there (a lot I suspect, given your seeming fixation with the subject!) but he really doesn't get slagged off in the way you insist that he is. Sure there has been the odd criticism of him, but you keep trying to make out that he's being vilified in some way, which really isn't the case. There is a lot of love for him there - a lot more than most of the other pros seem to get in appreciation threads (I'm sure they are equally supported/loved, I just mean traffic wise). No idea if he'll bugger off or not, but I very much doubt a few comments on a digital spy appreciation thread will have much bearing on his life decisions! He's been inundated with lots of social media love from people missing him on the show, so I don't think he'll be feeling too unloved!

Quite. I don't think it was the best idea, but I think there could have been many reasons why he did it - not least to give a bit of flash and distract from any shortcomings (injury related or otherwise), mixed with a bit of showing off, and man, he wouldn't be the first pro to do that would he! A hover board illegal lift would have been all kinds of awesome! Brendan is probably planning a routine for next year based around this, right now!

On reflection, I think Gio was aiming to get the closing slot for their dance by adding a bit more 'wow'. Which would have added to Laura's public votes.

But .. it was AJ's 22nd birthday. And their dance was good despite bizarre music.

I seem to remember Alesha saying once that she blagged her way through the Paso, so it's entirely possible she was actually meant to be doing more at that point!

Yes, she did - but not at that point, at the very beginning of the dance. I think you can see when she messed up - at about 1.35 onwards she looks like she's blagging it!
