“Plus after performing their individual routines, all six couples will dance a Cha Cha at the same time in the Cha Cha Challenge, which is brand new for 2016 and is where everyone will be hoping to impress the judges for valuable extra points. The leaderboard could be turned upside down at this crucial stage of the competition.”

Thanks for finding this; it's really interesting. Guess they need to find things to fill the time now.

It could turn out well, or it could be a hot mess - I guess we'll find out.

So basically a Cha Cha Cha-thon?

Will they go to two dances at 5 contestants meaning the week before semis or leave it to the semis? Assuming a 3 person final.

Cheer up, people!

If Ed Balls is still there at that point you might see the famous "Ed Balls Body Fondle" again.

Dancing with the stars does this almost every season since a few years ago but they have 2 couples facing each other for this challenge. One person usually pick who they want to go against.

Is it really wise to have All 6 couples on the floor at the same time I feel like it would be a mess. Isn't it better to have 2 couples going against each other so that we have 3 pairs with 6 people left ?

He should survive next week, so only Blackpool to worry about.

If he survives Blackpool, I can see him topping the audience vote in week 10 (especially with that dance, that plays into Katya's hand).

Of all the -thons they could've gone for, not sure cha cha will be the most interesting to watch. I still wish we'd got proper carnage from last year's quickstepathon

They should do a Jack and JIll or Mario and Maria. That would separate the sheep from the goats.

Ballroom /Latin competitions have 6 or more on the floor at the same time so why not strictly?

The wicked in me would love that - the carnage I mean!

I hate these "a-thon" dance-offs as I'm convinced it's just a chance for the judges to manipulate the leaderboard.

If I wasn't fairly certain that Greg won't make it that far, I'd almost think that they were trying to get rid of him with all this.

"Well, Greg is decent at ballroom, so let's not do the Quickstep a-thon like last year."

"What should we do instead?"

"What was Greg's worst dance?"

"Cha cha."

"PERFECT!"

Uggh. I hate the -athons. It's just teacher's pet challenge. And they tell them to be cross when they're out and then we get loads of posts on here about how 'whoever poster doesn't like' was clearly cross to be out, how arrogant, etc. And you can't see the dancing properly. Almost forgave last year's because it was Jay in tails and I've forgotten everything else about it, but the cha cha won't even have that.

But on a much bigger floor!! The floor in the Strictly studio looks a fair size onscreen but when you are there it really is very small.
Certainly no dance competition even for juveniles would be held on a floor that size.

I think they should introduce something similar to Track Cycling's "Elimination Race." in this case where the last couple past the judges desk after each circuit gets eliminated from that dance and thus scores fewer points than those left in.

I'm going to suggest it to Louise Rainbow, she likes to introduce "innovations to improve the show."

Of all the a -thons they could have gone for, personally I'd say the paintdryathon would be more interesting to watch.

I'm not the biggest fan of the cha cha.

It's exactly what happens at any dance competition, amateur or professional. The whole point is floorcraft and avoiding collision. Cha Cha Cha doesn't need to travel that far when done well, it can be compact. Pairs against each other would be pointless, never mind unfair to some couples depending on the draw.

Personally I'd find a waltzathon much more interesting as that requires real floorcraft skill.
