my first album was a 'top pops' album made up of covers of contemporary hits in 1970.

my first real album (by real artists) was i think 'motown chartbusters vol 3' , as a singles collector in the early 70's this was a goldmine.

my first proper album by a group was steeleye span - 'below the salt'.

It was the most aggressive track I had heard in my whole life and made a huge impression on me.”

Court of the Crimson King was one of the first I bought myself with my own money

I remember the first two albums that my mum and dad bought for me very well...

This was at Christmas in 1980. They bought me the This Ole House album by Shakin' Stevens (don't laugh please, I was only 6!) and also Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps) by David Bowie. I remember that I played these albums to death at the time. I was a big fan of Shaky and Bowie back then but, as I said, I was only 6 years old, so I didn't know any better!

The first proper CD that I bought with my own money and of my own choice was exactly 10 years later, in 1990. Status Quo were very big in this year and they had just celebrated their 25th Anniversary. I bought their hits album Rockin' All Over The Years, as I was a big Quo fan at that time. I know, I should have known better then too, but most of my mates liked them back then and I guess that I just wanted to fit in. I still like them now, though, so my tastes haven't really changed that much. Please don't laugh.

My neighbour - slightly older than me - had played it to death and when she tired of it she gave it to me. I liked it because of Jet Harris' bass playing (favourite track: Apron Strings) but I found the girls screaming all the way through a little hard to take! This was way before Beatlemania but we subsequently became accustomed to that sort of crowd reaction as pop stardom was born.

A few years ago it was finally released as a CD with the entire set duplicated .. one set in original mono and the other set engineered stereo. I much prefer the mono mix.”

This was the first album I ever brought when I was 13 with my pocket money...45 years after it was released

Nothing wrong with a bit of Quo. I bought that CD too.

'Shadows to the Fore' EP, I suppose I was about 13, and worked weekends washing up in a café. I bought it with my own money (earned 1/3d an hour). Must've drove my mum and dad mad playing it non-stop.

The first LPs I actually bought with my own money were Kenny Ball's Golden Hits and Joe Brown's A Picture of You .. both on the Pye Golden Guinea label in the early sixties.

The first that I ever got was either the first Greatest Hits by the country band named Alabama or the Live In London album from country singer Ricky Skaggs.

The first album that I bought with my own money was one of the following albums.

Tanya Tucker-What Do I Do With Me
Travis Tritt-Its All About To Change
Hal Ketchum-Past The Point Of Rescue

I don't remember which was bought first. I only remember that I got them around the same time and it was the year that I turned nine.

God bless you and these awesome acts always!!!

First album bought for me when I was a bout 9 - a compilation called Goofy Greats - it actually had some good songs as well as some stinkers.

First album I bought myself was Motorhead's Ace of Spades and Black Sabbath Vol4 (was at the same time) - I was 15.

Those albums were just about all you could get back in those days. At the local coop
they had Music For Pleasure and Contour albums.
They were nicely presented.
I remember the war movies themes and western movie themes.

Were hardly any chart albums but i did buy

Carpenters by Carpenters in 1971
Go Moog !
Look what theyve done to my song = New Seekers

The first album I can remember owning is The Untouchable Alvin Stardust. I also had a few of the Top Of The Pops compilation albums from the seventies as well as a compilation titled "Pure Gold On EMI" which featured twenty early seventies tracks by the likes of T Rex, Mud, Wizzard, Geordie, ELO and Deep Purple.
