Ah, this is fun, great work Alex

Sorry for not voting in the last two heats, especially a shame since if I had, I would've qualified with Patrick Dorgan I still managed to make it with Sergey though, even if liked Nika better myself

Will try to vote in the next couple, although I can't make any promises

69. Belarus

The Belarusian renaissance of 2014 feels so long ago now, as we return to the Dark Ages. Didn't EuanDesu tell me that Belarus was going to soar? We are still waiting.

12 Queen of Africa − Maimuna ( Yugimuto1 )

A decent piece of music, but I'm a pedant
11 Run Away − Elena Qarooni ( King Kunta )
10 I Came to Love − Alexander Rybak ( TerryP )
9 5 to 7 Years − Alexander Rybak ( BethnalGreen )

The worst thing about Belarus is that Alexander Rybak was born there, and now we have to hear every single middle of the road song he will ever release. Just look at his smug face D:
8 Abdymi Me − NAVI ( EuroFoxi )
7 Only With You − Elena Qarooni ( Pooley )
6 B'yot Bit − IOWA ( BethnalGreen )
5 Heartbroken Woman − Gunesh ( Pooley )

I am sorry Pooley and Beth that you were subjected to Belarus twice in the same six-month period.
4 There Is Far − Natalia Podolsky ( Steven_P )
3 Speak − Alyona Lanskaya ( jag02010 )

This is the point where the songs become not awful.
2 140 − IOWA ( MiesBouwman )
1 Frozen to Death − Kadebostany ( jackel1234 )

I think I gave Frozen to Death about a third of its points in CofC. But it's Kadebostany's least impressive song.
Maybe Belarus will fare better when they can send in a Julia Parshuta song. Or Russia will just keep laughing as they steal every single one.

I have not had many votes for the current batches. So I am sadly going to have to extend the voting until I am home from my hols which is 19th December. If votes pick up whilst I am away I will try to do results then but I can't promise anything.

This does mean future round are bumped back a bit. But the numbers I am planning for these rounds are smaller then usual so hopefully it being xmas/new year time won't affect it too much.

Also if you are wanting to host a round and are free over the xmas/new year period. Then put your name down here again for me so I have an idea on numbers

A 4th for my robbed Moldovan finalist (it was 4th in it's QF). If I did it with that Game Over song by Aelyn. Why did Inima Mae not?

YAAS at my Null points! Gosh I could not believe I got the fat 0! I mean the host knew I was getting the 0 why no sympathy vote? I jest. I am quite proud of my QUARTER FINAL NULL POINTS! To be judged as THE WORST song in the contest/of all time! Is a badge of honour!
Try having two songs place 3rd in the QF and then not qualify, as well as one placing 4th and being a favourite to win and not even getting close to qualifying.

I'll say it's a good sign that just two countries I've had this year are there, considering one of them was sent because Zuzi Zu is a goddess and the other was sent because I wanted a 4th country and I felt bad for Mirror only getting like 3 views.

Definitely up for hosting a round and other than the obvious Christmas Eve-Boxing Day will be free.

:OO I didn't even notice this. We have all failed in our Belarusian musical history. At least you did better with it?

Carlisle entered Beautiful Lies for Romania before and Kaliningrad this year.

I have no life so, as per Alex, I've done a ranking of the DSFE countries for 2016! 2nd place in the player leaderboard at your service.

I'll be using the same countries as Alex because while I'm sure it'd be lovely to see where I'd rank UAE and Bashkortostan I don't think they've got enough entries to form a good judgement and Alex is usually right about these things. Obviously I won't be counting my entries.

I've marked each entry for the 72 countries out of 10 and formed an average from these marks and there is a winner! There are also some shockers along the way and I'll try to make this as interesting as possible.

I expect this to be in avb's next list of 'Most Shocking DSFE Moments'.

68. Slovenia

Slovenia is another country that players like CFK take on as a challenge, the reason being that they have only reached the top 10 twice in all of DSFE history, and their best result was 6th place in 2011. Last year they had a few UTR gems, but this year they struggled even with those.

12 Still I Try − LeeLooJamais ( Steven_P )

The song title is very applicable to Slovenia's DSFE journey. The cheap production and clothing are very applicable to Slovenia's DSFE journey.
11 Vesela − Ditka ( yoshi94 )
10 Na Kožo Pisana − Eva Boto ( Pooley )
9 Core − Jardier ( penguinperson )
8 Player − Ina Shai ( ChickenFromKiev )
7 Do Kosti − Tabu ( ChickenFromKiev )

I have literally no opinion on any of these songs.
6 Putin, Putout − Klemen Slajkona ( Yugimuto1 )

This song has become a lot scarier since November.
5 2Night − Anay ( Pooley )
4 Maj − Zala Djuric Ribic ( yoshi94 )
3 Malo se Popilo − Ines Erbus ( Lisa.B )

Another ride with Lisa.B through the Eastern European landscape
2 Nothing Left For Me − Maraaya ( thengp12 )
1 Fred − Petra Marklund ( BethnalGreen )

Naturally, my fav Slovenian entry is the one that achieved the second worst result.
Are we getting out of the bottom tier countries yet? I don't believe so tbh.

I have Slovenia all the time in a certain contest so I have a lot of experience in looking through their... wonderful music scene(?). Three times this year I've taken them on and each time has been through my own doing.

Ina Shai was the best, cruelly underrated

Remind me to take Slovenia in all your contests.

Meanwhile, the first two countries in my countdown...

72nd place: North Africa
Up in last place is a country (if you can call it that) that uses their diaspora of multiple French, Italian, British and American artists (as well as Loreen who has represented North Africa a grand total of 26 times in North Africa's 19 contest history) instead of sending anything from the eight countries that they can send artists from. Whatever works.

7th: Loreen - Breaking Robot (DSFE 74)
6th: RedOne - Don't You Need Somebody (DSFE 82)
5th: Bibi Bourelly - Ego (DSFE 75)
4th: Adel Tawil ft Matisyahu - Zuhause (DSFE 77)

3rd: Malika Ayane - Blu (DSFE 83)
This was decent, but was never gonna score all that highly in my points and her previous entry was a lot better. Not surprised this barely would've qualified in DSFE 83.

2nd: Elisa Tovati - Me And My Robot (DSFE 78)
I really disliked this initially but this has grown on me and now I can tolerate it. Obviously anything in French stands a good chance at getting love from me.

1st: Myra Sky - Hurricane (DSFE 76)
This was like the song of my late 2015 and while it appeared a little bit late for me to fully appreciate it, it's certainly the best North African entry this year by some way.

Average Score: 5.29

71st place: Luxembourg
Perhaps a shock, finishing in second to last this year is Luxembourg, a country that even finished in 3rd place this year. Whoops. I think this suffered from having too many entries I found diabolical because there are some good ones in here too, just too many I wasn't keen on. Unfortunately the tiny nation is behind even the likes of Bosnia and Montenegro.

12th: Go Back To The Zoo - Beam Me Up (DSFE 78)
11th: Eefje de Visser - Scheef (DSFE 74)
10th: Rene Froger - Cheer For The Netherlands (DSFE 77)
9th: My Baby - Remedy II (DSFE 83)
8th: Austinn - Dangerous (DSFE 80)
7th: André Hazes Jr - Leef (DSFE 84)
6th: Di-Rect - Fired Up (DSFE 82)
5th: Thomas Azier - Rukeli's Last Dance (DSFE 79)
4th: Leonie Meijer - Naked (DSFE 81)

3rd: Chinook - Dancing In Flames (DSFE 73)
I remember everybody wanted to send this in DSFE 73 and then it ended up doing averagely and everyone forgot about it. This is one of those songs that I liked and probably should've done better but I'd forgotten about it until I went over Luxembourg's entries.

2nd: Broods - Free (DSFE 76)
I didn't get Broods until they were entered again in DSFE 81 but I prefer this to Heartlines honestly. Surprised this did so well but not disappointed, it's a great entry.

1st: Kovacs - 50 Shades of Black
I just love everything about Kovacs - the vocals, the instrumentation, the fact that every song seems to have some kind of bitchy theme. Not as good as The Devil You Know but still my favourite Luxembourgish(?) entry.

Average Score: 5.75

Thanks for the Number 2 in Slovenia Alexos. I grew to like that song. Thanks CFK for Di Rekt 6th place. I know how sad you were at its last place QF exit. I expect Katrine Lukins "Crash and Burn" to feature high on the Latvian list.

I don't have Lux quite this low, but yeah, those 5 last-placers really damage its standing.

One thing I really noticed while compiling this ranking was how much your entries have changed from when you started earlier this year. You're really in the game now

It wasn't my favourite in the QF, I'll admit that, but I do think it's one of the most undeserved QF last places in DSFE (since I've been participating anyway!). We'll have to see about Latvia.

Yeah, I wasn't expecting them to be quite as low as they were but none of Lux's entries have really stood out to me so I guess that's how they suffered.

I noticed this too - don't get down about your earlier entries being low in my rankings because there will be plenty of them up there!

Yes I really should do another of those at some point, Carlisle was sneaky with his song recycling...

I am honoured to have sent the top 2 songs in that list, avb <3 I have advanced so far from being your 3rd fav!
Aw that's nice, if I'm being honest you're still my third favourite but they were two very good songs.

In other news, unimpressed by this DSFE veteran now forcing us to sit through more of her music at Eurovision next year...

Thanks. It has been an education. I pick songs I like and enjoy. I wish I had known about Rebeca's Hizo la luz that nunaney sent when I had Andorra, rather than Auryn and Anastacia. I wish I had nabbed Izin Korem when Kazakhstan was in the bargain bin but I was unsure whether Turkvision was allowed in the contest.

The one thing that is constant: I still have no lists. Maybe the break will give me time to compile a few. But I know now where to go to find songs for some countries.

I wasn't sure how it would go down either, so also hesitated. Sucks to be us

67. Portugal

Never let anyone tell you that Portugal is a good country. It's not horrible though, just painfully mediocre and boring, which is more offensive I think that a country that has diverse quality.

12 Shatter'd − Tynisha Keli ( JordanC55 )

I love when Jordan sends hilarious dated songs like this, I imagine his eyes lighting up with stars like Steven Universe.
11 Diário − Nathalie Pires ( MiesBouwman )
10 Dia De Folga − Ana Moura ( nick1990 )
9 Blue Skies − Jamiroquai ( Steven_P )

My heart broke when Steven_P's first ever DSFE entry was Jamiroquai
8 Killing Kind − Ana Free ( yoshi94 )
7 Be OK − April Ivy ( yoshi94 )
6 Strong For Too Long − Leonor Andrade ( Steven_P )
5 Eight − Isaura ( Lurker62 )
4 Death of a Bachelor − Panic! At the Disco ( aliyah101 )
3 Dizer Que Não − Dengaz ft. Matay ( mikabv )

I know we're all meant to condemn the first syllable of rap but keep defying the status quo mika!
2 Ailleurs − Caroline Costa ( avb )
1 I Know What You Did − Shawn Mendes, Camilla Cabello ( Carlisle156 )

I'm here for Camilla but Shawn fits perfectly with the theme of beige that we have been experiencing as Portugal cures our collective insomnia

I don't mind Portugal, still keeping that 100% qualification record going - even if my 5 finalists have included an American, a Finn, a Swede and a Frenchwoman... #thankgodforthediaspora

There's still a very good artist out there that no-one has ever sent for them too.

Yes, after all I would not be where I am today without Natalia Jimenez and Portugal. I meant more its performance this year to be uninspiring.

I think I might know who you mean by that other artist ;o or maybe there are two out there!
