62. Lebanon Lebanon would probably be better off joining Western Asia in future to mask its individual shame. 7 Khallini Maak − Ramy Ayach ( thengp12 ) Quote:
This got 3 points <3
6 Nifsi Aoulhalak − Myriam Fares ( Yugimuto1 )Quote:
I personally think no one should ever get a country twice in a row unless they ask for it, because this is what happens.
5 NACH − Coeur De Pierre ( ChickenFromKiev )4 Runaway Love − Omar Dean ft Sophia Hope ( ChickenFromKiev ) Quote:
Lebanon's one qualifier this year. Sophia Hope is really shrill.
3 La Colčre du Monde − Anthony Touma ( Yugimuto1 )Quote:
I always want Anthony Touma to be better than he is.
2 Popular Song − Mika ft. Ariana Grande ( Pooley )Quote:
My husband is a Wicked fanatic so I had already heard this 38785934 times. It's good, but really only served a function as part of the 'Pooley becomes Jordan' plotline of 2016.
1 House of Gold − Twenty One Pilots ( jackel1234 )Quote:
The music video is so grim :c but the song is pretty.
Maybe Therese Neaime can release something on par with Sold to Perfection to bring light back into our lives.ALSO as a companion to 'Alex ranks the countries of DSFE 2016', here are my top 50 songs of the year (minus any I sent in), which will be updated with each new country that is eliminated. It currently looks like this:

61. Western Asia Western Asia continues to be a controversial entity in that no one is actually sure what it is. Does it include Iran? Lebanon? That really depends on how many players there. Having access to 10 countries might look like a lot, and with enough time you might be able to find some random heritage links for Kuwait or Oman, but that is easier said than done. Instead, we mostly get: 7 Lovely − Kanika Kapoor etc. ( Steven_P ) 6 La Fiesta − Diana Haddad ft Zâd ( Lisa.B ) 5 F Your Love − Darin ( Carlisle156 ) Quote:
This was Carlisle's message to me after his Iranian and Lebanese songs were denied :x
4 Believe − Sep ( TerryP )Quote:
Sep was such a lucky find I thought, but it would be cool if she released some good music.
3 Revolution − Helly Luv ( Lurker62 )Quote:
I don't think it's pro war, mika?
2 Champagne − Ferras ( AxG ) 1 El Barrio − Eden xo ( pingu58011 ) Quote:
Pingu defying the new player curse is inspiring to us all.

I hope twenty one pilots will be entered for Lebanon again. I think they would have done well with a more recent song.
Oh, I was planning to enter twenty one pilots with another song when I got Western Asia. Then, they showed up in the reveals before I sent them in. I got a little mad at that time as jackel beat me to it. ![]() Terry, you'll have my votes sometime during the weekend. I just came back from Australia yesterday and I need to unpack. |

60. Morocco When it's not waging war in order to be included in the contest, Morocco is not that bad, given that most viable artists are in France or somewhere that's not Morocco. Unfortunately Morocco's best entry this year was scooped up by North Africa, so this is what we are left with. 4 Lm3allem − Saad Lajarred ( March Mornings ) Quote:
I was listening to the soon-to-be number 1 song of my DSFE 2016 top 50 in order to refresh my memory of this song. That was a poor life choice.
3 #DENIA − Manal ( Yugimuto1 )Quote:
w/e w/e
2 Gabriel − Najoua Belyzel ( yoshi94 )Quote:
This is catchier than I remember, even if it is from 1998.
1 Are We Awake − TAL ( phill363 )Quote:
Maybe there was something going on with the atmosphere in the ISS, but I liked this a lot more during the contest than I do now. Rien N'est Parfait TAL is the best TAL.

I think about half of the points I've given you are from the last two editions.
I've noticed a maths error in my own list because I thought I could do maths in my head but obviously I can't. ![]() Updated list, one set of votes from DSFE 84 as well as the 173 points I received in the final. ![]() Points Given 01: Alexos - 63pts (two 12s) 02: Yugimuto1 - 58pts 03: MiesBouwman - 55pts (two 12s) 04: BethnalGreen - 54pts 05: GreekFan - 48pts (one 12) 06: jackel1234 - 45pts 07: thengp12 - 44pts (one 12) 08: Lurker62 - 33pts (two 12s) 09: TerryP - 32pts (one shared 12) 10: yoshi94 - 31pts (one shared 12)

Thanks thengp & CFK! Sorry I didn't really return the favour, but I do send my best wishes. 59. Croatia Croatia had 7 finalists last year. In 2016 they had 2. They are another cautionary tale about depleting your resources too quickly, take note, world! With Guano Apes, Lorde, Luminize etc. not releasing anything decent, some risks were taken. I'm a bit sad that Nikolija's plastic surgery adventure in the desert didn't reach the Final, but let's look and see how everybody else also (mostly) failed: 10 Time Bomb − Rolin Humes ( poshbloke ) Quote:
Gary is an angel, but this is a disorientating experience.
9 Bla Bla − Vlaho ( mikabv )Quote:
Vlaho is not the next Luminize.
8 Kreni Dalje − Calido ( yoshi94 )7 Walk Away − Tina Cross ( Cuishla ) 6 Bang Bang − Stranci ( thengp12 ) Quote:
A series of unfortunate events.
5 Rio − Karma ft. Aainjaa ( Gwen 404 )Quote:
This at least reminded me of the true Rio-themed anthem of all time.
4 Udajem Se − Jelena Rozga ( TerryP )3 Gdje Smo Mi − Marko Tolja ( Gwen 404 ) Quote:
Gwen was unlucky not to qualify with this but I'm allergic to flatcaps and waistcoats.
2 Home − Vlaho ( BethnalGreen )1 La La Land − Jax ( jag02010 ) Quote:
Everyone wanted to send Home in, for good reason, but neither of these are outstanding which is why Croatia is out now.
I think where we all went wrong was not sending Severina.

I have to say I disagree on your comment about everyone wanting to send in 'Home'. I wanted to send 'Bla Bla' in way before Beth sent in 'Home', and I still think that the latter was a much weaker song (although maybe the production was better).
Also, Tina Cross is not an unfortunate event ! I think that song is in my overall top 30 of the year

Mika, I do truly believe you are a gift, but unfortunately I do find the only tolerable parts of Bla Bla are the parts where Vlado is silent. Home is all about the build up (although arguably the pay-off is weak). I can definitely recognise how ~true~ Walk Away is, although country is just not for me. 60. North Africa I generally side-eye the notion that North Africa is all that bad, due to there being a huge diaspora available from Morocco and Algeria, and even more if you include South Sudan. Even Egypt is okay. Tunisia is not. The less said about Libyantichrist the better. North Africa did not live up to these optimistic standards in 2016 however. 7 Breaking Robot − Loreen ( thengp12 ) Quote:
If there are any songs left from this album that are yet to be sent, I predict they will score minus points.
6 Ego − Bibi Bourelly ( Carlisle156 )5 Zuhause − Adel Tawil ft. Matisyahu ( BethnalGreen ) 4 Blu − Malika Ayane ( Pooley ) Quote:
Continuing the theme that no one sends anything by anyone actually living in North Africa.
3 Don't You Need Somebody? − Red One ( Pete Callan )Quote:
I do need somebody, but RedOne is such a screenwhore.
2 Take Me Far Away − Elisa Tovati ( Gwen 404 )Quote:
I don't understand how this came last in the SF?
1 Hurricane − Myra Sky ( GreekFan )Quote:
Definitely a contender for song most likely to travel through time to be adopted by an American Idol contestant in 2006, but sometimes you just have to go with your heart.

62nd place: Azerbaijan
Azerbaijan's music scene is similar to Turkey's, except less music and worse quality. No surprise that they've had to resort to Laleh for a third of the editions this year, and that they've only had two finalists. If only the artists worth sending released more music. Me: Latfia Soyuoz - Pusula (DSFE 76) 11th: Aygun Kazimova ft Snoop Dogg - Coffee From Colombia (DSFE 83) 10th: Eldar Gasimov - The One (DSFE 75) 9th: Safura Alizadeh - It's My War (DSFE 78) 8th: Sebnem Tovuzlu - Lazim (DSFE 80) 7th: Laleh - Bara fa va mig sjalv (DSFE 77) 6th: Adam Lambert ft Laleh - Welcome To The Show (DSFE 79) 5th: Laleh - Boom (DSFE 73) 4th: Emin - Boomerang (DSFE 74) 3rd: Laleh - Aldrig Bli Som Forr (DSFE 82) Laleh's best entry this year, so obviously it finished last in the semi. I definitely think this suffered from being the last Laleh song to be entered for Azerbaijan and so everyone was just a bit fed up with her appearing every edition (myself included) but this was actually pretty good compared to some of her other bland efforts. 2nd: Ellyland - Bedroom (DSFE 84) I've had Ellyland hidden away on my playlist for a while and I guess it's not a surprise it didn't make it to the semi finals but it's certainly a guilty pleasure of mine and I'm looking forward to seeing her try for... Germany? 1st: In-Grid ft Vaqif - Umid Yagisi (DSFE 81) ROBBED. This was completely bonkers, over the top Eurovisiony madness which obviously I adored. It grew on me even more after the contest and I'm actually really sad this didn't do better - definitely deserved more than 19 points in the quarter final. I feel like this song summarises Azerbaijan's year though. Average Score: 6.18 61st place: Georgia This was an excellent year for Georgia. While they were plagued with some rather dreadful entries (sorry), there were also some very good ones, all of which got deserved good results, and made for their NF to be one of the hardest to vote on. I hope they can continue their good form in 2017, although for some reason I doubt it. Me: Rati Durglishvili - Crazy (DSFE 78) 10th: Young Georgian Lolitaz - Gay Swimmer (DSFE 80) 9th: Nina Sublatti ft Giorgi Zagarelli - Dark Desire (DSFE 76) 8th: Green Room ft Dato Lomidze - Let's Fall In Love (DSFE 75) 7th: A-studio - Just Goodbye (DSFE 77) 6th: Nini - Crazy I (DSFE 83) 5th: Tamta - Dem Ime O,ti Nomizis (DSFE 82) 4th: Nodar Reviya - Frau (DSFE 79) 3rd: Yaseniya - Mon Ami (DSFE 74) This actually got my 12 back in Tromso, and while I'm not quite so enthusiastic about it now (although every time I watch it I still feel overwhelmingly happy), I'm glad that this kinda kicked off Georgia's year in a good way and I'm happy it did as well as it did, despite only just making it out of both rounds. 2nd: Tamta - To kati parapano (DSFE 84) I haven't been fussed about Tamta's entries in the past, but I really enjoyed this one, and I'm not sure why. I honestly think this was quite underrated in the final and that it should've done better, but considering Georgia's (and Tamta's) track record I'm sure they'll take 17th. 1st: SALIO - Wayside (DSFE 81) Best Georgian entry of all time. Moving on. Average Score: 6.20 So here's my top 60 (some of which are abbreviated to suit my cheap version of Excel):

Remember to keep voting over the weekend and next week. I will try to update as often as I can.
I have already decided that I am switching things up for next year. The early start to the NFs have failed miserably. So the country NFs are going to be scrapped for next year and instead each countries 3 highest placed finalists will take part in round 1. Where they will be all split into equal group contest winners straight into round 2. This way CofC will have a more similar look to the regular contests which will hopefully drive more votes. |

57. Georgia Who would ever have conceived of Georgia having four finalists in a year that wasn't 2011, and reaching the heights of 57 in a ranking?? But here we are. 11 Frau − Nodar Reviya ( Pooley ) Quote:
Entirely irritating.
10 Let's Fall in Love − Green Room ft. Dato Lomidze ( poshbloke )9 Dark Desire − Nina Sublatti ft. Giorgi Zagareli ( Lurker62 ) 8 Just Goodbye − A-Studio ( avb ) Quote:
In Georgia, you are not allowed to edit your videos in an aesthetically acceptable way.
7 Crazy I − Nini ( penguinperson )6 Crazy − Rati Durglishvili ( ChickenFromKiev ) 5 Gay Swimmer − Young Georgian Lolitaz ( nunaney ) Quote:
I am lowkey a fan of how much of a dirge this is 4 Mon Ami (Prem’era!) − Yaseniya ( TerryP/yoshi94 )
3 Dem Ime O,ti Nomizis − Tamta ( jackel1234 ) 2 To Kati Parapano − Tamta ( Lisa.B ) Quote:
Desperately, Tamta made a deal with Satan, and that deal is that she is allowed to reach the Final, but only with the most average of her songs. Still though <3
1 Wayside − SALIO ( Yugimuto1 )Quote:
I'm not gushing about it as much as some, but no doubt ~the~ Georgian find of the year, and for once the chaos in a Georgian video actually works to its advantage.

56. Israel Israel were my number 3 country in 2014. What a disappointment. At least they can be pleased to beat Western Asia this year? 10 Katzefet Im Tut − Dudu Aharon ( nick1990 ) Quote:
Yeah, we get it.
9 Habib Galbi − A-WA ( Lisa.B )8 Part Time − Idan Amedi ( Steven_P ) 7 Notenet Li Bait − Chen Aharoni ( AcerBen ) Quote:
I beg you not to go down this route, Chen.
6 Let the River In − Dotan ( Gwen 404 )Quote:
I beg you not to go down this route, Dotan.
5 Ledachaya − Amit Farkash ( ChickenFromKiev )4 Surprised − Shira ( Yugimuto1 ) 3 On Dirait − Amir ( TerryP ) Quote:
Amir is always far too happy with himself.
2 Different Sun − Lee Triffon ( MiesBouwman )Quote:
Bizarre but compelling. So naturally it was out in the QFs.
1 Dominoes − Inbal Bibi ( March Mornings )Quote:
This is a really pleasant entry in a Sara Barielles first album sort of way, but it excels in this group.
What was that one contest that Israel could send in anyone Jewish? Maybe that should happen again and see what happens.Btw we are now at the orange stage of countries:

I managed to defrost my hands.
![]() 60th place: Morocco Not as bad as North Africa were this year, but still not a great year for Morocco. I do think more songs in French should be sent because most of them do well (emphasis on most, sorry Najoua Belyzel </3). 4th: Saad Lajarred - Lm3allem (DSFE 79) Mortifying. 3rd: Manal - #DENIA (DSFE 81) This was decent but passed me by. And I dislike songs that have random hashtags in the title for no reason. 2nd: Najoua Belyzel - Gabriel (DSFE 73) This wasn't that bad really, definitely didn't deserve last in the QF. Obviously nowhere near as good as her other entries but it was decent and actually quite catchy. 1st: TAL - Are We Awake (DSFE 80) Not even a competition. She saved Morocco from being an absolute mess this year by giving us something good and catchy. Add the French in and you've got some points from me. ![]() Average Score: 6.25 59th place: Denmark Oh Denmark, how the mighty have fallen. While when their entries are good, they're very good, there were lots of not-so-good entries in there too which dragged this down dramatically. Plus I can't stand Lukas Graham so them appearing twice didn't help. Denmark are one of those countries that I dread receiving (I'd rather have Montenegro or Bosnia than Denmark, absolute nightmare). Me: Sophia Nohr - Welcome To The List (DSFE 81) 11th: Lukas Graham - 7 Years (DSFE 73) 10th: Lukas Graham - Funeral (DSFE 76) 9th: Blondage - Dive (DSFE 78) 8th: Christopher - Heartbeat (DSFE 84) 7th: Volbeat - The Bliss (DSFE 82) 6th: Spleen United - Days Of Thunder (DSFE 79) 5th: Ida Corr - Down (DSFE 83) 4th: Ericka Jane - Favorite Lie (DSFE 74) 3rd: Alex Vargas - Giving Up The Ghost (DSFE 75) I really wasn't fussed over his 2015 entry but this was a lot better, and I'm glad it got a deserved good result. Hopefully he appears again with something like this. 2nd: Patrick Dorgan - Painkillers (DSFE 77) On one hand, I hate Mika for stealing the one viable option I had for Denmark, but on the other hand, I still really like this song, and again I'm glad it got a good result. 1st: Fallulah - Perfect Tense (DSFE 80) Yep, best finishing Danish entry is my favourite this year. The second half of 2016 had me suddenly become addicted to all things electropop and so I was going to be all over this. Average Score: 6.27 |
