Corrie - Len Fairclough
I see they are still blackening his name over 30 years later.
Except the fact he didn't run off with a floozy, but died in a car crash when going to see this woman. And the affair didn't happen right up until his exit. Not the least bit comparable to the Sharif situation. Of course why is this a surprise when the current production team can't be arsed with continuity and storylines for their current plots. At least Len was a great character, the same can't be said for most of them now. |

I thought it was established that Len had been having an affair with a woman in Ashton. We are to assume that it had been going on for a while.
Whatever happened it was badly written. Probably to besmirch the character's reputation, as Peter Adamson slagged them all off in the papers just before. They could have just left it as a fatal car crash. No need for the retrospective 'affair' to have been tagged on. |

Whilst it was a nasty and unnecesary end to the charactee, probably done because of the cloud over the actor, I thought it was established that the affair had been ongoung for sone time, even though we didn't see it on screen.
In that respect it was similar to Yasmeens situation of believing you had.a loyal husband and happy marriage and then the rug beung pulled from.under you on discovering the infidelity and not even.being able to.have it out with them as they have either left or died. |

I remember it being a n equally ridiculous s/l to the Sharif one, in that Len had spent literally years pursuing Rita & was utterly devoted to her in his own way!! The affair as Jinmy says was entirely an effort to blacken the character's memory so the public would accept Adamson's dismissal without complaint!! |
