So, you marry a penniless illegal immigrant to get him British residency.

Things start to get hot so you decide to confess all to show the BIB what a decent, kind and honest person you are !!!!!!

In fact, according to your best mate (Eva) the BIB will fully understand you did it so two gay guys could be together and pat you on the back as good as let you off the fact you went through a sham marriage and continued to carry on the sham till it looked like you were about to get caught out.

YEAH RIGHT !!!!!! Only on Corrie !!!!!

Ridiculous The whole sl is silly, the police being utterly incompetent, the invisible Caz managing to get inside Maria's flat without being seen. Maria deciding to kill or attack Caz, then leaving all the 'evidence' for the Police to see (blood on walls and on her rug thrown in Fiz's bins now her scissors)

That Caz does my head in. Her stupid faces she pulls like she's high or something, she did it tonight after cutting herself. I really couldn't care less about this rediculous storyline. Just get Maria and Aiden together already!

Well I'm sorry but I'm enjoying it for what it is, entertainment!! Ok it probably is full of plot holes but isn't every soap s/l if you bother to go to ghe trouble of dissecting it & pulling it to bits!!
Is it really any dafter than the whole David locked in a cellar & escaping to cause an accident that everyone walked away from unscathed, or even a cerain rival soap's someone pushing a guy off a bridge & causing a multiple pile up that only killed one person!!
At least the Caz thing is something a bit different & is addressing Maria's two previous storylines that were left in a complete mess!!
Looking forward to seeing all the rest of the drama playing out & will be paying scant regard to all the moaning about it on here!!

It's easy to pull to bits. It's a good idea for a SL and what a refreshing change for the focus to be on Maria. But Corrie should have put much more thought into the SL to give it some credibility.

The main problems I have had with it so far have been Kate's attitude, which has been ridiculous but actually not that far out of character!! She's the definition of fickle that girl!!
Also the police investigation is not being carried out well at all.... but then t'were ever thus with any & every police investigation we've ever seen on Corrie!!
Most of the rest can kind of be explained or at least guessed at/worked out imo & it is certainly far from being as far fetched as many soap plots!! Plus like you say it's something different!!

I think Caz had a key as she told Kirk she would return it to Maria and I don't think she ever did but yeah i'm surprised noone has seen her. Where is she supposedly living?

I know Eva is supposed to be ditzy but tonight she was beyond idiotic with her "judge Rinder" and "OMG it's amazing what you did for love" comments

What makes me laugh as when Maria sees the blood on the scissors, she's going to realise she's been in there when she's been out. She knows Caz had a spare key! DUH change the locks! Simple! Tell the police she has a spare key! She won't be able to get in again without leaving some damage to the door. It's just stupid.

Except now Caz has installed cameras she probably has no need to back to the flat again. I don't think she knows Caz has a spare key or she gave it back otherwise she would have changed the locks.

Police on soaps are always useless. How come when health storylines like cancer, soaps not including Corrie because they sucked at that too always try to be as realistic as possible usually bringing in someone from an organisation like emmerdale did with Ashley's dementia storyline to help get it right so why don't soaps do the same with police investigations. It can still be entertaining as well as realistic or at least more realistic than they normally are.

The Weatherfield Police recruitment process is clearly seriously flawed. Kirsty Soames got through.... say no more!

in a street where everyone knows everyone's business, Caz is able to walk around without being seen and almost came out that door on to Michelle and Steve's lap, sorry but if you are sitting open a door, engaged in chat or not, if a door opens opposite where you are sitting you automatically look over - oh well, just take it for what it is

I thought Maria married the guy abroad and that enabled him to come to the UK.
If they are legally married, (although I know the marriage has not been consummated) has Maria broken the law?
Plenty of older women have married and brought back toy boys from places like Africa, and although they usually get dumped when the toy boy gets his British passport, the police don't get involved.
Or have I missed something?

Maria has committed crime as she has taken part in sham marriage fraud, where both parties are aware the marriage is fake, and has occurred solely for one person to obtain a visa. The other scenario you refer to is Immigration marriage fraud, where only one party is aware that the marriage is fake. As you describe it is often (not always) an older woman who believes a younger man is in love with them, however the partner is pretending and they have married purely to get the required paperwork to stay in the country. This isn't a treated as a criminal offence for the innocent partner, as they have been a victim too.

It's something different and is using a character - Maria who has been underused. From that point of view it's good. It make such a change for someone different to have a big SL. But Corrie just haven't bothered to plan the SL very well. There are pages and pages of comments on the SOR thread because it's that easy to pick fault.

As you say it's not far fetched in terms of soap SLs, it's just the gaping holes in the plot that make it weak. That said, I'm still kind of enjoying it. Corrie plots are ususally linear with nothing else going on and come the end of the SL that's it. But in this case, there seems to be something going on with Aidan which I hope Corrie will pursue because there could be another good SL there. Maria's fake marriage is another strand to the SL. Now all we need to know is how Maria is going to avoid prison.

All she has to do to avoid prison is call notdebbiedingle to the stand as a character witness. 😀

The whole storyline is ludicrous and just sucks. It doesn't help that Maria is at the centre of it, I've seen mannequins who can emote better.

To some extent, Caz is the new Kirsty Soames.

Maria is a bit whiny. Although most of the actors in Corrie are limited and it doesn't help when some of them have a face full of botox.

Exactly what I thought.

It's just an automatic reaction to look up, yet Caz was standing there clear as day after opening the door, and neither of them even gave a sideways glance.
