Hi guys. I was looking for the Doctor Who fan forum but i appear to have gotten lost somewhere along the way as this place seems way too full of angry, bitter people who clearly hate the show. Can someone point me to where fans can have a nice bit of smart fun and yet incisive chat about our favourite Gallifreyan? Thanks chaps!

But there will be backlash. You know that as you write your reply, I just think it would be a lot nicer if everyone, not just you, just stopped for a moment before hitting that submit button. Just for a moment, to wonder if there is any feasible way you can get the point across in a slightly nicer way. It can make all the difference.
You aren't the villain in my eyes man , I noticed you in particular because yes, yours was a recent reply, and also because it was among the longest and most strongly worded on the thread. |

I'd agree, but at the same time, if your point is that you believe the popularity of the show is in decline because of Moffats running of it, there is no way to put that in a way that's going to seem nice to strong Moffat fans.
In that regard, you can more or less be as brash as you like about Moffat's wrongdoing, but just having a balance in your comment really makes a whole load of difference. I'm not just telling you this, by the way. Loads of people, even me, would do well to consider these things before posting. |

Just sneak in something good he's done in his time, surely there must be some things you've liked from his time. Anything really, just to make people feel less inclined to get angry.

I only liked Moffat in Series 5 and 6 after that it kinda got depressing to be honest.
Too me he is a poor show runner but an excellent writer but his poor show running abilities have severely detracted from the quality of his own scripts and the show as a whole. I did think S9 was an improvement on the past couple of season though. |

I think any criticism of any era of the show is valid cos it's obviously subjective. It's why I like coming on here. Different views. But I do get a bit irked when occasionally you get talk about 'Moffat fanbois' and the like. I'd be the same if people were dismissed as 'RTD fanbois' or, say, 'Tennant fangirls' indeed. (Hi Granny!
)Sure people can get a bit defensive if a particular area of the show that they really like gets knocked and I get that, but heck, we're all fans of 'Doctor Who' and usually I think that this place is okay for decent debate. I certainly don't think that there are many (Or any?) FM's who think a particular era of Who is perfect and above criticism. I don't think such an era exists. Don't think any era is without positives, either. People being dismissed as 'haters' just cos they're critical of the show....don't get that. (that's more tinternet in general.) Bit of a ramble! I'm gearing up to watching a certain thing that's happening over the pond and have had a few shandies! |

@ Blue Box, I have no interest in getting in to anything around here, but the second post you quoted and commented on in your first post is the type of bollocks which people are going to respond to. When people call out or take jabs at "groups" of other posters, this is what happens. I know. I've been told this.
I hear if Trump wins he's planning to build a wall between "RTD fans" and "Moffat acolytes." Michael_Eve is a reasonable guy so he has to pay for it. |

Silly comment. There was nothing in the second post that doctor blue box quoted that wasn't true. Calling other posters' comments "bollocks" because you have no valid alternative argument is the sort of thing that drags this forum down.

The only thing that drags this forum down are those bloody Moffat acolytes, stealing candy from Russell T Davies's office and all. Little buggers.

I think it should be a wide one so any fellow weirdo's who generally enjoy both eras can have a nice sit down. Of course the arrival of Chibbers might complicate things a bit! |

Of course the arrival of Chibbers might complicate things a bit! ![]() To Boz: As another "weirdo" who enjoys most of both RTD and SM eras and someone who recognises the problems in both, I've never said there's not a decline in viewing figures. What I have done repeatedly in the past is set it in context, to aid understanding and present a balanced view. i.e. the decline in TV viewing overall. At the very least it is reasonable to say that not all of the decline is due to a drop in quality. So, your first post in this thread which took a swipe at "SM acolytes" was needlessly provocative to me. That's Trump style debating in my book. If you didn't intend it to be provocative you should remember that only those who share your despondent views might find it funny. |

I'm not just telling you this, by the way. Loads of people, even me, would do well to consider these things before posting. It is because I am fair and give him the credit when he does something I like, that I feel there is nothing wrong with critisisng when he does something I don't like, or mentioning that while there are many good points about his time, that overall I haven't enjoyed it overall as much as RTD's time, and that I perceive that much of the public haven't either. Nor do I think there's anything wrong with having a little passion in negative opinion posts where I feel strongly, when I have been equally passionate when praising A Christmas Carol or the 50th for example. Not only am I not one of the 'Moffat hater' types, But, whilst I am often critical of Moffat, on the other side of things I have even attempted to do my bit to heal the forum rifts and promote the good points of both RTD and Moffat in the past in a thread in which I specified that people mention what they do like about each, and not criticise either. Here is that thread http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showt...454&highlight= Quote:

If you really didn't want to get into anything then surely you could have seen the post and my reply that both of which you didn't personally agree with, thought to yourself 'well, thats a load of old tosh' and ignored the posts and moved on. Quote:

Yep. You're right.
I'm part of the way there - I only saw that post because you quoted it. Continue with the old toshing in peace. |

I think Moffat is a good writter, but just needs someone to stop him going off the rails. When he had RTD over him his scripts were good. When he got free reign it just went a bit out of control. There is some great stuf there and some inspired ideas but he needs someone to stop him trying to be too clever and a smaller canvas to work on.

![]() Ive no idea how my thread got so badly derailed! Its nothing to do with liking or hating moffat etc!! its about the fact its sad that the Dr Who Experience is closing and how great it was to have the TARDIS tour. People are over dramatising the 'why'. Seems a simple case of an expired lease and land wanted for other things. It would be nice for the announcement to be.. 'its closing but relocating to xxxxx' but wherever that was it wouldn't be the same for any future TARDIS tour being on the doorstep. |

I was sad that RTD didn't at least collaborate with Moffat on Day of the Doctor, especially since the 10th Doctor and the time war were his creations, but still, what we did get from Moffat alone in that story was still a hugely enjoyable story and a fitting tribute to the 50 years of the shows existence. Dr Who Experience to close 2017
There is an interesting story about it at Wales Online which includes interviews with fans who have set up petitions. It also includes the official BBC Worldwide statement as follows:
“The Doctor Who Experience has enjoyed a fantastic five-year run in Cardiff Bay but, sadly, our five-year sub-lease from the City of Cardiff Council will come to an end in Summer 2017. As to opening somewhere else, we are not sure yet.” Personally, I think relocating it would actually give the exhibition a boost. It would give it the chance to relaunch and possibly attract a whole new customer base. I know the show has strong links to Cardiff but I do think it would do much better in London. |

Anywhere is better than nowhere. I know that Cardiff is out of the way for most the population... but theres no denying that the current location is pretty special as you also get to see BBC Wales studios right next door - and if you are very lucky you get to go on the TARDIS tour there. As I've said before... moving it elsewhere you'll lose that. |
