I've lost count as to how many celebrities have spoken out against Trump. To be fair, he's a controversial figure even by the admission of his own supporters, so it's hardly unexpected.
Exactly. My point was about Isambard attempting to use SM's negative comments on Trump, hardly unusual, as a yet another stick to beat SM with. I guess that's hardly unusual either.

Well, for some reason, the Trump-ripping doesn't make me dislike Moffat.

Considering the show has administered none too subtle kickings to both Thatcher and Blair in the past I don't see the problem in Trump being next even if it is a bit like shooting fish in a barrel. If anything I would say the Russell T Davies era was far more overtly 'political' (not that that was a bad thing by any means) and if anything Moffat has dialed it back a bit.

But I read something on another thread the other day where someone said Doctor Who should never do politics?!?!? What show have some people been watching for 50 years!?!? Whenever it's been done it has been in a subtle way which avoided the overt sledgehammer symbolism of some other shows but it has been present in varying degrees since day one! Quite right to.

Oh and while it might annoy you having to hear it from the mouth of Mr Moffat, the fact is OF COURSE the Doctor would be opposed to Trump. He would probably more likely pity him than despise him because he would see through the facade to the sad figure underneath but no doubt about it. He would not be a fan and anyone who thinks otherwise really does not understand the nature of the character. That said, he would also have seen through HRC. But it was always a lesser of two evils situation.

Quite. I'm appalled that some people would fall for such a snake oil salesman (if it's not clear already, I do mean Trump. ).

Hilarious! Funniest thing I've read in ages!

Or maybe you're right.....

Genesis of the Daleks not a patch on Victory of the Daleks
Why waste time watching Terror of the Zygons when there's The Zygon Invasion / Inversion
What were they thinking of with Robots of Death, Robots of Sherwood showed them how it should be done.
Pyramids of Mars? Pah! Kill the Moon with all the excitement of the moon being a giant egg.

Thanks for the laugh!
I have to say....

I agree totally.

Laugh all you want, but they hated it. No accounting for taste eh?

'The Deadly Assassin' certainly got a bit of a kicking from parts of fandom. (And Mary Whitehouse of course!) Don't know about the era in general; probably would have if there was tinternet back then. (Eg. Thread: The bloke in 'Android Invasion' never thought to look under his eyepatch?!)

As for TDA, mucking around with established Who 'lore'. Too dark. A bit odd and surreal. What were those weird scenes really all about beyond stretching the story out, etc. And no companion, of course. And there are scenes which have The Doctor talking to hims....hang on!

If you are still pursuing your bizarre claim that Who fans hated the Hinchcliffe era at the time, then you are sadly mistaken or else just making things up.

I've heard many a story from people, my dad being one of them, who used to take part in the fanclubs and read the fanzines of just how critical the Who fanbase could be back then (with The Deadly Assassin being a frequently targeted story). It's the kind of stuff you see on, say, Digital Spy nowadays.

Yes, very true about The Deadly Assassin, but not of the whole Hinchcliffe era, it was generally very well received at the time.

I think a lot of fans were actually pretty ticked off with the era being "too dark, too repetitive, too silly" etc.

Yes, it was one of the most popular eras in the show of all time, but like every era in this show, you could have mistaken it for infamy.

Thank god DS didn't exist in 1976.

It may not exist during the next series, if the unsubstantiated rumours are true. We'll all have to decamp to the Daily Mail comments section.

Could you clarify that remark? What unsubstantiated rumors?

Digital Spy is apparently being downsized to save money and a lot of people think the Forums will be the first thing to go.

There's threads in the Broadcasting and other forums discussing it.

There's also a 'reckon' on another thread that the AV forums were approached by Digital Spy and offered cheap advertising on here in order to win over posters before these forums close at the end of the year.

Who nose...

Thanks for the link. I just added my 2pen'erth to that thread. I never go to the "main" site now for fear of spoilers whereas several years ago it was a useful source of info - second only to thedigitalbits for news on BD and DVD releases.

It really is sad just how bad the site is now - and I'm not referring to some of what is posted here for once!
