Call centre work is not for everybody.
The hours are often long, it's plugged into a phone all day and your every move is literally timed. Add to that poor mental health and unpleasant customers/colleagues and it's hell. |

I've worked in a call centre and it was the most awful job I've ever had other than amazon.

Tbh Lee should have told his boss about his upcoming wedding when he applied but his boss should have also respected the fact it was a big day for him and shouldn't have forced him to work. It may Have been better if Lee informed him durinf the interview. That place is pulling Lee apart. I feel so much for Lee and that Bully of a boss is going to push him over the edge. |

I worked in car insurance company in sales but our calls were all inbound, most people had got the quote on line but called up to purchase. We had a certain amount of policies we had to sell per month plus targets for hire car, breakdown, personal injury insurance and payment protection. I suffered with depression and if I had a bad day sales wise I'd often find myself coming home then spending the night without sleep as I was so worried so Lee's story is going to be hard to watch for me. If you're working for an inbound call centre the bosses are normally better and from my experience I got given loads of advice and tips on how to sell and such but you are still very aware of the fact that if you can't cut it, they'll let you go. Most companies have a probationary period, mine was sixth months and fortunately I was kept on but 5/6 of the people who started the same time as me were let go for not hitting targets. From personal experience, if you haven't got confidence or faith in yourself then sales wise you more than likely won't do well. Take for example the other guy tonight when he was on the phone, he was confident and able to build rapport with the customer. Lee on the other hand sounded nervous and all over the place, very few people will buy something from you if they can sense that you're pretty desperate so to speak. |

Why isn't Lee working at the Vic ? If Sharon works there part time, they must have room for more staff.

A call centre is no place for Lee, with his depression and anxiety issues. Surely he should be protected and have some help from government? it's a disability and makes it harder to get a job..
I think I'd rather do a packing job over a call centre. The bosses are all bully's and they are the ones creaming it the employee's slave labour. There's a reason the Polish immigrants prefer working in Lorros. Whitney would suit a call centre more as she has the gift of the gab.. Lee should be working in the pub and Whitney should be the one having to look for a job. |

He doesn't even need to work there really. Poor Lee. It's not like he has rent to pay or he'll be out, he's still living with his parents. He feels so much pressure in trying to please Whitney but if he could just be honest with her and tell her the job is awful and is making his mental health issues worse, I'm sure she would be understanding. I don't know why he can't just do a simple job, even if it's a supermarket job! As long as he's working and bringing in money I would be proud. They would get help anyway if she were to stay at home with baby one day. But that job certainly isn't for him, he needs to quit asap.

Lee should look for an easy part time job like in a store or maybe he can sell fruit and veg on the market? I mean Martin does ok by it ?! |

Thing is some girls don't want a guy who doesn't work even though Lee has legit reasons.. . I'm not saying Whitney is like that but she does like a certain lifestyle !

As for those saying that Lee should be working at the bar while Whitney goes out to work, although in principle I agree, it isn't that straight-forward. He may feel like less of a man if his wife is seen as the main breadwinner, and that's only going to make his depression worse. All of this feelings will be heightened at the moment. It's an impossible situation and the only real solution is for him to treat this like the illness it is, and try to get better through going to his GP, discussing what he's going through, talking to his friends and family so they're aware, and taking small steps to get better. It can feel impossible to get out of that slump, though. It's such a cruel illness. |

Whitney does need to stop piling the pressure on him. I know she's not doing it intentionally but she should think about his depression before piling the pressure on him to find a place etc.

Sadly many girls are like that.. They would rather date a guy who treats them badly who cheats on them and horrible as opposed to someone who doesn't work like Lee but would do anything for them is such a lovely down to earth lad with a heart of gold any mother would want for her daughter ! it isn't all about the materialistic things.. |

The problem is Lee and Whitney are really talking properly. Whitney wants to move out and set-up home together, so Lee is feeling pressured to work elsewhere to bring in more money than he'd probably get working for his Dad in the Vic. Clearly his commission isn't going to be much, so even if he manages to stay in the job for a while, he won't be bringing in much and certainly not as much as he's led Whitney and his parents to believe.
Whitney probably would be more understanding but she's all wrapped up with the wedding and moving out and Lee's taken the easy option of just going along with it all.... which can't last for much longer. |

If Lee DOES commit suicide his funeral will be REALLY sad, I don't normally cry but might shed a tear for the lad. When you have criminals walking the street, bullys (like his boss) and just some horrible people, yet poor mild-mannered and quiet Lee feels forced/pressured to take his own life? wheres the help that these criminals and druggies/alcoholics seem to get... just very sad =(

It's certainly being built up so that suicide could be a viable exit. Do we know that he's being killed off, though? He could alternatively get sectioned or just go off, find Buster and work on the fish stall, wherever it is now. Not sure how that leaves Whitney, mind!

I remember her as a teen when she earned a little money....noticing that Morgan's school trousers no longer fit him and knowing Bianca was broke she went out and bought him new trousers. That's the sort of person she is. And if she knew Lee worked in a call centre she'd be just as proud of him. |

Whitney has never hankered after nice things. She was brought up in poverty and has always been happy to settle for the minimum...the cheap earings, the second hand dress, a weekend away, a home made cake and buffet. It's Lee that's putting all this pressure on himself.

She keeps going on about him getting a job though before he got one to make her happy.. that's pressure.
And the wedding still cost a lot as Lee had to get a payday loan.. Money wise the only thing he had to pay for was his suit and shoes and there was already a wedding fund for that. The reception was free, the wedding dress was free and his mate provided the car. It was Lee wanting the expensive honeymoon and earings and insisting he pay for the replacement flowers. The only thing Whitney has put pressure on him for is a home of their own because there is no privacy in that flat. With depression spending money can give the sufferer a temporary lift, something to feel good about, and that's why so many get in debt unfortunately. |

I agree with all the comments people have posted. Lee basically went out there and got a job to make Whitney proud of him. However, it needs to be a two-way street. Surely Whitney could get a job considering she worked in a school? Perhaps as a part-time LSA (providing the government haven't scrapped those) somewhere considering she worked in education? Those brains shouldn't be going to waste.
As for the job Lee is doing, it's not the right environment for the guy. He's suffering with depression has low self-esteem and the cockiness of that Osman chap and his boss show it's a high-pressure environment. I went for a job at one which was more inbound, but in a seperate department (admin) and I am glad I didn't get the job. The agency who I am under are forever advertising positions there - even temporary ones until the Christmas break. Saying that, I think the interviewer didn't like me as I asked too many questions especially about Brexit and it did look like a modelling agency - too many pretty people - an average looking guy like me didn't fit. I dodged a bullet. It's not going to end well, but we should praising SoC for covering workplace bullying and depression. |
