My main bet is on Emma Stone winning anyway. She's been the main contender for months, her campaign is pretty big and the buzz and acclaim continues to rise. The only way i can see her losing is if they "do a leo" and give it to Amy Adams as a pity win.

At this point it wouldn't really be a surprise if La-La Land wins big.

Golden Globe nominations tomorrow around 1pm I think over here.
Should give us a better indiction of things to come. La La Land and Emma Stone aside, it seems quite close in most categories this year. Silence has got 100% on RT so far and I wonder if it could sneak up on all the others. Best Actor and both Best Supporting categories are anyone's guess so far. |

Variety put up a mixed review of Silence- http://variety.com/2016/film/reviews...se-1201935391/
It's a 2 hour 40 minute film about religion, folk suspect it may be too uncommercial for the best picture Oscar. Scorsese maybe a strong prospect for director, though given some of the films they snubbed him on over the years, I'd guess Damien Chazelle is still favourite. |

Could all change but at this stage it seems to be between La La Land and Moonlight.

Yeah I saw that review but for some reason it was still given a 'fresh tomato' sign on RT.

I'm looking forward to seeing loving with ruth negga and Joel edgerton. Ruth is rated very highly as a contender this year.
I remember her in excellent irish crime drama love/hate. She's a really good actress. |

I thought she was great in black Swan. I haven't see Jackie yet so I can't comment on that.
I'm greatly looking forward to lala land though. I adore Emma Stone. It's not the actress I am objecting to, it's her performance in Jackie. Granted I've only seen a few clips from the movie but from what I've seen it looks terrible. She's just standing there like a Barbie doll with no expression on her face and with a ridiculous accent which sounds nothing like Jackie Kennedy. |

One unmentioned thing about Jackie is, due to Birth of a Nation imploding, Jackie is Fox Searchlight's only horse in the race and they are a studio that pushes hard for Oscars.

Anna Kendrick was hilarious reading out the GG nominations. Ruth Negga and Joel Edgerton both nominated. And Hugh Grant.
Isabelle Huppert nominated in the Best Actress category. She could be the surprise winner come Oscar night.

Hmmm I knew there had to be a reason why it's getting so much attention. It will be a travesty if she wins the Oscar for this performance.

why a travesty? due to all the reviews it seems like she'd be the perfect choice.

Theres no reason a mixed review can't have a fresh rating though, it's the person who uploads the review that makes that call.
I'm kinda glad Hugh Grant is being noticed for FFJ. A suprisingly good movie and Grant's best performance to date in my opinion. |

That's strange cause it had a lot of Oscar buzz before it was released. Maybe Loving has stolen it's thunder. Joel Edgerton and Ruth Negga are strong contenders.
Fox Searchlight are pushing "Jackie" in the awards nominations |

I should probably put the "the Golden Globes are voted for by 95 people who are historically famous for voting for whoever gave them the best swag or threw them the best party" sign up in this thread now.
Having said that I suppose it's interesting Silence got given he-haw by them. |
