Very sad that Finding Dory wasn't nominated.
Probably stands a better chance at the Oscars since Pixar practically sponsor that award.

Having said that I suppose it's interesting Silence got given he-haw by them.
Was it screened in time?

The Golden Globes get a lot of coverage but as pointers for the Oscars they have become increasingly unreliable.

I should probably put the "the Golden Globes are voted for by 95 people who are historically famous for voting for whoever gave them the best swag or threw them the best party" sign up in this thread now.

The weekend story of them being told to give back their Tom Ford merchandise

I wonder how many actually did. But looking at the nominations it doesn't seem to have done "Notorious Animals" too much good

Anna Kendrick was hilarious reading out the GG nominations. Ruth Negga and Joel Edgerton both nominated. And Hugh Grant. Isabelle Huppert nominated in the Best Actress category. She could be the surprise winner come Oscar night.
Colin farrell is also nominated for the lobster. I loved his performance in that and the film itself.

Surprised Rachel Weisz and the film itself didn't get more nominations.

Would have been cutting it pretty fine, so i think it is best not to read too much in to it not being here. More interesting that Sully and Hanks have missed out. Also no Arrival for drama picture with Lion in!

Quite an interesting set of nominations -plenty to digest!

Nocturnal Animas not Notorious Animals....

Sadly in spite of being well reviewed it has never looked liked getting many oscars noms for some time now, i would say two at most (supporting actor and adapted screenplay).

Awards are not based on who you fancy.

I genuinely think he's a terrific actor.

He's been in some terrible movies but he's a great talent.

Animals apparently turns into a horror film in it's last act, Oscar doesn't tend to vote for horror movies.

I saw it at the London Film Festival, and I really don't see that at all, tbh. The film has three layers that are interwoven (not really that spoilery but in tags for caution):
Spoiler
I think its possible the narrative structure, though very well done, imho, possibly isn't to everyones taste. But I would not even say it has horror elements unless you count the odd jumpy moment.

Yes, as you say there's one moment which may make people jump but to say it turns into a horror film is a large stretch.

I loved the film, but could see how it may not be to everybody's taste. Amy Adams, as is usually the case, is superb, alongside Jake Gyllenhaal, Michael Shannon and Aaron Taylor Johnson - who got a deserved nomination at the Golden Globes.

I absolutely loved the final scene, in the restaurant.

Its a great cast , with Shannon being the stand out for me. I feel for Gyllenhaal - such a great actor but seldom gets the recognition he deserves. Robbed of a nomination for Nightcrawler, looks like missing out again here, such a shame.

Think Affleck Stone Davis and Ali will win their acting categories but think one or two sure bets could slip away judging by the SAG nominations

Glad to see both reviewers on Film 2016 spoke the truth about La La Land being overrated and soulless. I think it's this years Boyhood and will probably go away empty handed on Oscar night. Well maybe cinematography will win.

I think Emma Stone will be La La Lands sole winner.

The Academy loves films about LA though, how else do you explain Crash winning?

Its a subjective opinion not 'the truth'. Personally, I thought it had a lot of soul. Doesn't mean I'm speaking 'the truth' either, just expressing my view on it. Theres a scene near the end that I found to be simply heartbreaking.

Not necessarily my favourite film of the year, but I found it very touching, even though I don't like musicals much as a rule of thumb

I do fully expect a backlash against La La Land as it closes in on Oscar night, happens every year with the seeming favourite. Predictable as anything.

I agree with this, but would add in the case go Crash there was a healthy dab of homophobia as well, what with the active campaigning against Brokeback Mountain by the christian right in Hollywood.

I feel sorry for the film in a way, as the oscar win really damaged the films legacy, as people only remember it for winning in controversial circumstances.

If La-La falls, who is it going to fall to though? Manchester-by-the-Sea & Moonlight would both be unlikely best picture winners.
