I currently have a bog standard Sky subscription (£30 per month for the entertainment package) which I hardly ever use, and am looking to get one of this stick things to allow me to watch stuff from online.

If I want to say, watch a film that is on youtube on my TV without it being a smart TV, will chromecast or whatever let me do this? Is it worth just getting one of those things instead of a Smart TV, and if so which is best?

Also, how would one go about starting to use Kodi?

I can give you lots of advice on using Kodi but I only use it for managing media, adding online apps such as youtube, iplayer etc but as I don't have any apps to access those pesky illegal streams then I might not be your person.

get kodi on a fire tv or firestick Paddy..if its just films and tv you want, not live tv then this will do the job for you, google will show you how to do it and which apps you need for films and tv, really easy to install.

You Tube is full of videos on how to install the reps on Kodi, it can be quite daunting at first.

Just wondering if you ever recorded something off the telly and then lent that VHS/whatever to anyone else? Ever borrowed or lent a purchased VHS/dvd/bluray from or to anyone?

Accessing streams is certainly questionable but I wouldn't get my undies in a knot over it. I work in production, never known anyone to lose or not get a job because too many people are streaming something. By the time something hits the screens, we've all been paid long since. It still happens in too small a number to seriously affect the money men/women, despite any noises made.
