Laura, best known as a TV presenter, notably co-hosting I’m a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! NOW! (the ITV2 spin-off), is looking forward to the national tour of the play.

She said: “I’m a huge fan of Peter James’ books and so honoured to be cast as his Cleo for her first theatrical outing.

“Peter has created a strong character in Cleo Morely and I can’t wait to sink my teeth into the role.

“I’m also unbelievably excited to work with producer Joshua Andrews and director Ian Talbot.”

Laura, who is 31 and was born in County Wicklow, said she studied drama before doing a journalism degree, tackling roles including Lady Macbeth and Annie in the Arthur Miller play, All My Sons.

“I have been waiting a long time to return to acting and for a great role like this to come along, so I can’t wait to get on stage around the UK and, of course, Dublin with Not Dead Enough.”

The stage adaptations of Peter James’ bestselling thrillers have become a big annual attraction at the Theatre Royal with their twisting plots and casts of well-known faces.

Not Dead Enough is the third novel in the popular Roy Grace series of books. Grace is the Brighton-based detective with the missing wife (Sandy) who is happy to flout the rule book and deploy unconventional methods to solve a case.

During Strictly, it was nice to see the theatres where Laura is appearing in this play getting behind her on social media. Edit: Thanks for posting the news here.

She will have improved her performance skills quite a bit during Strictly so its been a good transition for her.

Laura announced this news at the start of Strictly and hence was always ruled out for the Tour.

(Puts on tin hat, runs away.. etc)

I love the Roy Grace books and can actually 'see' Laura as Cleo.
(It doesn't offend me in the way that Nathaniel Parker did as Tommy Lynley ... nothing like... at any rate)

That was truly horrific casting and ruined the whole thing for me. On a par of casting Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher but at least Cruise has a modicum of charisma on screen.

I'm reading the latest Roy Grace at the moment.

My own particular bugbear is Stephen Tompkinson as DCI Banks. Totally not as I picture him from the Peter Robinson books.

And then - insult to injury - they chop out the most important characters and plot lines. I managed half an episode

Totally. Can't watch those either - but Lynley edges it for the worst

As we seem to have gone a bit OT, I'd just like to add that a film of Jo Nesbo's The Snowman is due for release next year, with Michael Fassbender as Harry Hole.

This news makes me happy.

I always saw Hole as being more solid but hell yeah, Fassbender!

I've never read the books. Was Havers' casting OK? I loved Sharon Small in that series.
