So there aren't as many axings as first thought

http://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/east...od-ahmed-exit/

Nitin left of his own accord and was not axed

Old mother Hubbard also said the same

So much has been made of these "axings" but I think SOC is getting a very rough ride

Sometimes with a new producer they like to make their mark and get rid of the characters they feel either need a rest on screen or permanently get rid of them. I think if a soap keeps too many characters permanently then they do run the risk of becoming stale, so I think the right characters are leaving, and much as I am still fascinated by the sagas of Ronnie & Roxy I also think they have come to their natural end. Of course if all these death rumours are proved to be untrue I would be ok with them coming back after a break.

But that is the point. He hasn't made as many axings as first thought.

There is only Ronnie and Roxy being axed that matters now that we know that Masood chose to leave when dtc was still in charge.

The cokers and Kyle were background/supporting characters for the most part and won't be missed

Personally I'm already missing the Comers and think I will Kyle. But I love what he is doing generally with the show so...

Axing are always exaggerated when new producers come in. Actors who have wanted to go anyway, or whose storyline have come to a natural end are given the axed label.

The other way tabloids report it is as a mass walk out, that actors are quitting in droves in protest at the new direction.

Those announced as leaving are Les, Pamela, Claude the, Buster, Lee, Masood, Ronnie, Roxy so 8 out of a regular cast of approx 40? That is a fair percentage to hear about close together but change has to happen.

Sorry I wasn't clear in my post. I meant not just axing, but the new producer letting some people go when the actors decide to leave, I mean some producers get emotionally attached to characters, this is probably why Ian Beale, Ken Barlow & Tony Hutchinson are still involved in their respective soaps.

It was never said he axed Masood, it was always stated the Nitin quit. As well as the actor who played Buster.

Ronnie, Roxy, Lee, Kyle, Claudette, Babe, Pam and Les have all been axed. We also have Sonia and Linda on maternity.

I agree with all his axings anyway, so no problem from me.

I think Nitin chose the right time to leave, the Masoods are non-existent now. So fair play to the guy. He'll probably come back in a few years with Zainab.

As long as he brings Tamwar back too

But I agree apart from Roxy,I think that's a shame. I hope R&R aren't killed off

Have you not read the hundreds of threads on here about them all being axed?

The original press release states "Speaking this evening about his decision to leave the BBC1 soap", it was never in any doubt.

I have yet to see a good argument for keeping pointless Roxy around. Sean O'Connor obviously seen her as surplus to requirements and money is best spent elsewhere. There is no point keeping a character around just for the sake of it. Roxy was always just there for the sake of it. Hardly much of a loss.

Not really.

You have completely missed the original article, and believed what anyone has said on here. It was never printed anywhere other than speculation on here that Nitin was axed.

When new producers come in, their axings are always overhyped. Sean has made good decisions all round, with the exception of Lee, and maybe Roxy at a push. But both have justified reasons. Roxy is stagnent but with some decent writing could work, and Lee is for storyline purposes.

This is the important part of my post

"So much has been made of these "axings" but I think SOC is getting a very rough ride"

My post is about the forum in general (not me) overhyping and saying SOC is the worst thing since eastenders started in the literally hundreds of threads that have been started about all the axings and him.

I was asking seeing as it's not clear if others felt the same that he is being given a rough ride due to hype.

Nothing to do with me reading press releases or not

He's getting a rough ride because he's come in and made some big changes, not just to the cast but to the style of the show. People are always quicker to moan than to praise and obviously people feel hard done by if it's their favourite characters that are leaving, even if it's the actor's choice.

You could argue that SOC hasn't helped himself by not giving any interviews or making any public statements about his plans, so again, people being used to (and expecting) spoilers will naturally feel somewhat bereft and a little aggrieved. That said, he'll know these are consequences of such decisions and I think it shows a steely determination on his part to do the job his way and not to be swayed by criticism and outbursts on social media. You have to respect him for that. He's letting the show do the talking and how well it's worked will only be able to be answered say this time next year.

So yes, he is getting a hard time but that's partly because of his silence and the way in which he has chosen to work, so I doubt he'll be bothered too much!
