Really looking forward to this. It's about the serial killer Peter Manuel who terrorised Lanarkshire in the 1950s. It starts next month and stars Martin Compston as Peter Manuel, and Douglas Henshall as Detective Muncie.

Not due to start until Wednesday, but episode 1 is available to view via the ITV hub. I watched it this morning and thought it was really well executed. Looking forward to seeing how it progresses in the next two episodes.

Agree with the above, well worth giving it a go after the first episode

It's directed by John Strickland who directed Bodies and Line of Duty. There's been a spate of real-life serial killer stories lately but I am still looking forward to this one.

''Really well executed'' is a rather unfortunate choice of expression when you consider Manuel was among the last people in Scotland to be hanged

It seems to be serial killer season on TV at the moment. This is the 3rd drama in as many weeks about a serial killer. Ho Ho Ho.

He's been brilliant in anything I can remember him really, he really reminds me of Frank Foster from Corrie.

I he's brilliant. His real accent is great to hear as well - couldn't believe he's not a Londoner a la Line of Duty.
Having seen him in Monarch of the Glen with his normal accent to me it was odd hearing the accent in Line of Duty

Yes. ITV should start trailing Christmas programming now.

Did the court case really happen like that?

I always remember him as a fresh faced teenager in his first film "Sweet Sixteen".

Manuel liked playing games with authority and with his victims. He represented himself in court at his murder trial too after sacking his defence lawyer.

Was looking forward to it, but I found the first episode all rather muddled and lacking, more tension in the music soundtrack than on the screen.

Really? I was hiding behind a cushion when he was walking in the field behind the girl.

I thought it was a cracking start, from the slap from Muncie to the tormenting of Mary - really really tense.

Both leads were very good I thought.

If it had been fiction I'd be complaining that the prosecution at the first trial we saw must have been ludicrously incompetent to let him get off, but ... seems that is what happened.
