Not wanting to be picky but I'd have thought popular songs of the time would be very easy to research. Magic Moments playing at a birthday party in 1955 was'nt released till 1957.

It was her word against his and he played into public prejudices against women. Horrifying to think how many died because he got off.
I did enjoy it. Not to often I like detectives on TV. As banks let me down badly with acting. Esp Thompson . But acting in this esp villain was good
Loved this. I've read about Manuel and he was one sick man. I'm looking forward to seeing more of this.

Yes, if it wasn't based on fact, I would have thought the trial was totally absurd.
Is there no such thing as disclosure in Scottish law ? How could he suddenly claim to have been in a relationship with her if there was no evidence to prove it ? Why was there no rebuttal, the prosecution could surely just have asked him for the times and dates when they were supposed to have been together ?
Mind you, having read the facts of the case, it''s going to get even more ridiculous. Sometimes the truth in these cases is even crazier than anything a writer could imagine.

Attention to detail is SO IMPORTANT in period drama...
I notice people on here have noticed the "wing it" attitude by the producers through their other comments about other scenes!
Watching the dance scenes took me straight back to my teenage years. Sitting in a youth club, a real wallflower, everybody but me up and dancing and the best-looking boy I'd ever seen indicating across the room did I want to dance.

so, what was he charged with ? can't be rape as no penetration or even disrobing took place .
surely his claim of being her " boyfriend " could be easily disproved by loads of witnesses saying they'd never seen the girl in his company at any time.
I would wager trials like that, at that time in history, would be lucky to last more than one day. Would that everyone could get the judicial luxury of a six month trial like Simpson or Pistorius.
