Not picky at all, linfan. It really annoys me when this happens because it's so easy to get it right with the minimum amount of research.

It's so important not to fracture the reality thing when, as someone said, it would be just as easy to get it right. Like a scene in "Cilla" set in 1964 when someone pulled up in a car with a D reg.

...and if we're being picky I did not see single vehicle in "In Plain Sight" with Scottish registration.

IIRC there was a shot of a house in the near distance just before she took her shoes off. I think her plan was to leg it but he cottoned on and pulled her back in by picking up the piece of metal.

I thought it was great, Martin Compston played the vile man so well. Sometimes I can find myself rooting for the bad guy - can't see that happening with this.

I must be weird but if I see a 1960 washing machine in a drama set in 1955, you know what ?

It's not important, it doesn't spoil the enjoyment of the programme, nor should it for any normal, sane person.

Well, minor time period anomalies don't bother me either if they don't have any direct bearing on the plot, but I don't care to doubt the sanity of anyone who is bothered by them.

It was interesting.

I hadn't heard of this man before, but two serial killer series in one week is a bit much for me.

I have just watched the first episode, I thought she was going to make a run for it when she took her shoes off and was sure he was going to hit her with the iron bar as soon as she made a move!

Looking forward to the next episode but I couldn't resist looking up the true story!

What I find fascinating is how badly people aged even in the 1950's.

I looked up Peter Manuel online and, on the Wikipedia page about him, there's a picture of a decidedly middle aged man and yet he would actually only have been in his late 20's at the time. It does show how times have changed in regard to how people age.

Martin Compston's performance is stunning - so cocky and overconfident which is exactly what Manuel was like. Compston is chilling as Manuel.

Maybe a local can verify if the house used for the filming was the actual Watt bungalow ?

Last night I came across an interesting interview with Martin Compston, comparing playing ''goodies'' (as in Line of Duty) and ''baddies'': but now I can't find it at all.

The curious thing is that Manuel was at least as much a monster as Christie, but has nothing like the same notoriety at least outside Scotland. I'd heard his name, but no more,
I suppose that's because of Timothy Evans.

That was the point of the prosecution objecting to the Judge

The defendant was conducting his own defence, not standing as a witness in the dock,
as such he was not under oath and could lie with impunity and those lies couldn't be challenged.

As a defendant he could not be compelled to stand in the dock and give evidence if he decided not to (the right not to incriminate yourself).

The judge overruled this objection.

Quite how this would play out in a modern court I have no idea

Excellent drama, what a horrible person Manuel was. Glad the jury found him guilty and that he got hanged.

Great acting all round as well.
