I have liked Batchelors Chicken Cuppa Soup for years and yesterday had the last sachet out of a previously bought in date 4 sachet box which was like it should be white creamy and taste of chicken . Today i had a sachet out of a newly bought 5 sachet box and was really disappointed and i bought 8 of these boxes because they were on offer. Without noticing when i bought them it said "New Best Ever Recipe" on the box and they are new and horrible .The first thing i noticed is when i emptied the sachet in the cup and added boiling water it was yellow and lumpy during and after stirring then the smell hit me not of chicken but something else like a sour smell. The consistency was thicker and i did not want to but i had a taste which was sour and did not taste of chicken at all. I tried another sachet out of another box and it was the same . I have no idea why they have changed it but they have and I will definitely not be buying this product again. I googled and found some other complaints from around the country about the new Batchelors Chicken Cuppa Soup so its not just me.

Are you sure you're not thinking of Chicken and Vegetable (with croutons, in a four-pack, definitely white-ish) rather than just Chicken?

Sorry, no I meant the chicken&veg is (and IIRC always has been?) a white-ish mix, i.e. not the one you now have several crates of...

I rarely have just-chicken soup nowadays, back when living off the scoopamarket and potatoes the massive tub of chicken (posh, with noodles) was definitely a yellow colour and that was fine then but might put me off a bit now.

They did the same with the tomato. Added milk to it so I couldn't have it any more when it was fine beforehand.

Shame - and thanks for the warning. I have a soup every day and blend three packs to share with a colleague. Plain chicken is one of my favourite bases, mix with French Onion and Mushroom for a really warming snack.

One I really hated was the Heinz cup a soup concentrate which was over a pound a go, that tasted of wallpaper paste. Down the sink and never again.

This should be in Food and Drink too.

I'll share one of my favourite, comfort, snack recipes with fellow gourmets here

1 pack Tesco Chicken Instant Noodles with flavour sachet
Half a sachet of Tesco Cuppa Soup (I find Broccoli and Stilton ones rather nice)
250ml boiling water and microwave for 3 minutes.

Beats the pants off Pot Noodles

Do you add a special cold busting suppliment?

If you will eat a packet full of flavour enhancing chemicals and tasteless nutritionally inferior dehydrated meat and veg, what do you expect. They have as much nutritional value as chewing on an old sock.

“In a Batchelors Cup of Soup you’re getting MSG, Disodium 5, Tibonucleotides, Disodium Guanylate, maltodrexin, along with as much as 21% of your daily salt intake”

They've probably changed this lot ^^^^ to something even more revolting and toxic.

I hope they don't change the Chicken and Veg soups. I still not gotten over Birdseye changing the recipe for their boil in the bag chicken curries years ago

Fortunately I never buy Cup-A-Soup so it won't be too much of a problem for me.

The only Cup-A-Soup worth drinking (?eating) is Waitrose Asparagus but I realise that this makes me sound a bit elitist.

Never a truer word said. God knows what muck is in this chemical mix.

Yeah when they were forced to use real chicken instead of weasel and donkey meat it was never the same.

Nom

And the best thing with Asparagus cup-style-soups is that there is no doubt that there is real Asparagus in them...

Powdered soups always taste artificial and revolting. It is much nicer to make your own.
