Are all HDMI connections ARC?

Sorry if it's a dumb question lol. I want to getv a sound bar for my tv but when I bought the tv I was on a budget and got one that was big and had a nice HD screen but f all connections! I have no optical connetion so my only choice would be to connect it via HDMI. I started reading about ARC to play back the sound and now I'm wondering if they all have this.

Thanks for any help.

Most recent LCD sets have one of their HDMI connections as an ARC one - if you post the details of the set, someone should be able to confirm.

Some of the older (5+ year old sets) don't have ARC on any HDMI connections.

ok thanks. I'll just find out what the model is. I'm buggered if it doesn't as it hasn't got any other connections

REading up I don't think any are ARC as they are HMDI 1.4

HDMI 1.4 was the first HDMI format to have ARC. So being HDMI 1.4 could mean the TV has ARC. However, there is no mention at all in the manual about ARC.

Usually if one HDMI port is ARC enabled it will have ARC in the label. The diagram in the manual does not show either port labelled like that. Coupled with the lack of any mention of ARC in the manual it looks like you are out of luck.

Looking through the manual it seems the only audio output may be the SCART. Though that only seems to output from the built in tuner. OK if all you ever watch is Freeview but no good if you have a DVD/Blu-Ray player or a Sky/Freesat/Freeview box plugged into one of the HDMI ports.

Yeah neither are labeled plus I looked up some online threads where other people have said it doesn't have ARC. Thanks all for the help.

I just found this:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Fosmon-Adap...WDSE7QERPC000P

and this:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Goronya-Ext...to+arc+adapter

Would that do the trick?

Those boxes extract audio from an HDMI interconnection between, for example, a DVD player and the TV. So you would plug the DVD player (or whatever) into the IN socket on the box and another lead from the OUT socket to the TV.

You would then get the audio from the DVD (or whatever) appear on the digital audio out socket(s).

What you will never ever get using those boxes is audio from the TV. They only work plugged into an OUTPUT socket, the TV sockets are all INPUT
