Hello 👋

We are thinking of adopting a new cat from the rescue centre. Preferably an adult cat. If we are approved for a new addition to our household we need to ensure that the little one is given the best that we could afford. We had a cat that would not eat anything other than Science Diet, however I have been reading some negative comments online about its nutritional value. There is a well stocked pet shop in town that sells a wide variety of commercial and lesser known cat food including Science Diet/Science plan .

can you recommend any cat food brands that are nutritional and what cats like?

See what your cat actually likes. We started ours off on dry food, but she often ate it too quick and it made her sick.

We tried wet food and found that she didn't like Iams, and refused to eat it. Some flavours of Whiskas she would eat straight away and other flavours just got ignored, finally we got Felix and she cleans the bowl every time.

You have no choice, your cat will decide. I have bought the most expensive food available and she turns her nose up at it every time. Won't touch whiskas, but absolutely loves Aldi cat food.

I looked and thought maybe this is going down some sartorial political route and then realised it wasn't.

Depending on your cat, greek total yogurt is great normally for cats especially those with a bad gut.

If possible i'd spend time looking for cheap real meat such as reduced chicken and just cook it till its safe and job done, legs and thighs just dumped in a pot and left for 30 mins will probably keep the supreme galactic overlord happy for a few days.

Every cat is different and most do like variety so try them with the off cuts of the Sunday roast (different one every week and see).

With our 'darling' sometimes when my mums doing a roast beef joint she'll give me a bag of the offcuts etc and i can barely walk into the house with it without being tracked.

If you buy cat food that says its "Chicken" flavour, how will you actually know unless you try it yourself?

LOL

Whatever you choose I am sure the price has gone up because of Brexit although I suppose if they are dealing in dollars in might have gone down today, certainly has if they are using the Peso!

I don't think the Yen is doing any better.

Bit of a seesaw this currency lark

Give your cat the best there is... give your cat Brexit Bites. Then let your cat go outside and explore the whole world, it will give your cat a happier and more successful life!

Try to find ones that have a high protein level, avoid the "big" named ones as they tend to be like giving your cat fast food. Cooked chicken is a good idea, but don't give them the bones as they splinter inside. Oddly raw chicken bones are good as they help clean their teeth.
The adoption centre will be able to give advice on what puss likes anyway.

Teresa May apparently doesn't like cats, but Jeremy Corbin has had several over the years - latest is called El Gato iirc.

Do a referendum.

Felix is the best all round for your cat and you. But only offer it 2 choices. A really wet un nutritional cat food like Whiskers and a very dry tasteless one like Science plan.

Make sure you hide Stein, sorry, I mean Felix to avoid him choosing it. Infact just let the 2 companies with the most money bribe their way into your referendum.

And if you don't like the result, just hold another referendum.

Yeah, and just like the Whiskas ads, it's a load of bollocks. I have had 4 cats now, and none of them would go near Whiskas. 8 out of 10 cats me arse.

My cat won't touch Whiskas either. She'll eat cheap own brand food from the local supermarket, but not Whiskas. It probably tastes vile for cats, but they can get away with selling it because cats can't talk and who's ever going to taste their cat's food?

Give your cat human grade food. Most love a bit of fish or cooked chicken, slice of beef etc. cut up small.

I do that and the odd sniffed at Felix as good as it looks.

Mind my cat's ancient and has no teeth and I spoil her terribly in order to keep her alive.

Finding this thread in politics amused me no end. Wish I could end with a pithy political remark but I'm too fed up with it all.

Perhaps someone else can provide one.
