Thank you for all your replies. Sorry, I didn't realise that I posted it in the wrong forum
. Pets is just above politics. At least it has given some of you a bit of light relief amongst the madness of political news at the moment. It seems we can bring people together with the love of cats ![]() Thank you for your suggestions. When Shelly was being neutered we were recommended science plan by the vet, we just thought that it must be the best but I have since heard that it is high in protein. Cherrie was a peculiar cat as she'd wake us up at 6am for her breakfast which comprised of a small tin of Sheba, a small piece of cheese, a drop of milk and a fresh bowl of water. No other cat we had demanded extra strong mature cheese that even I didn't like. They all have loved milk though. Jeremy's breakfast comprised of a tin of Whiskas, a bowl of Go Cat dry kibble, a spot of milk along with a fresh bowl of water. When we got Jeremy we were told that you shouldn't feed cat's real meat as it lacks the nutrition that cat's need. However a friend of mine feeds her cats and dogs real meat and they are healthy. |

It's all a matter of trying them and seeing what they like. My old cat would eat anything other than the really expensive stuff that was 80% meat. My new cats won't eat the stuff from tins. They like sheba sauce lovers gold trays the most (Turkey in white sauce is very popular, my old cat loved it as well).

When we adopted Dexter he had been born and raised at Cats Protection. He was on Royal Canin kitten food and we continued that, moving on to Fit 32 when he was old enough. Sachets of food - he loves but it goes straight through him, so we don't offer that any more. He does have a fillet of white fish (simply cooked in the micro) for supper. He's 4 now and as fit as a fiddle.
Moving to a new home is stressful, ask what puss is on now and keep to that for at least the first few weeks. |

Feed them as nature intended, raw.

Thank you very much. It seems what we were told about raw meat was wrong. I won't try them on science diet again anyway.

I've often wondered why no company sells cat food in what would surely be a natural (in the wild) diet, such as sparrow, vole, frog etc.

I wouldn't feed my pooches kibble or crappy tinned mush for all the tea in china, it's just not natural. Show me an animal that can process their food into biscuits or cook their meat and store it in tins, nope they can't and they wouldn't want to, they like it raw, those teeth are designed to tear flesh from bones and to crunch bones so we should let them do it. If you are looking to feed your pets a proper diet there's Keizebrink, Nutriment, The dogs butcher, Paleo ridge, Naturaw and loads of others to choose from, you can get minces, meat chunks and whole prey and your pets will think all their Christmases have come at once. |

My cat won't eat anything but Science Plan, I have tried everything. Is high protein a bad thing?

Cats like variety. And being spoilt. I got 2 rescue cats last year, about 2years old. They would eat anything. I cried when I had to have one of them put down last month. Now the other is getting fussy. I guess because she's not competing for food. She loves Dreamies but they give her the shits. Thank goodness she goes out now. I couldn't cope with a cat that wouldn't go out.

The concensus amongst all the cats who pop into my garden, including the hedgehogs they prefer all kinds of Felix wet food. (the jelly kind). Doubly delicious, and senior. And rather would have the meat varieties and not the fish or mixed, Thanks.

Lots of places do sell species appropriate food, you just have to look for them online and get it delivered. I feed my dogs whole prey sometimes, full rabbits with the fur still left on etc I bought them pigeons once but they just buried them in my back garden
