In recent Corrie episodes we've seen what would appear to be genuine affection towards Eileen from Phelan. Does anyone else think he might be genuinely falling for her?

Yes I do think he's got a lot of genuine affection for her now, but I doubt it will be enough to stop him doing the dirty on her when it comes time to conclude the flats scam.

He did look genuinely concerned for Eileen tonight. Taking her to the doctors and being relieved that she's not going deaf. If not in love then I think he's grown very fond of her.

I think I heard that the actor had signed a contract for another year at Corrie and they will start to make his character a nicer person.

Yeah I think that his feelings are becoming genuine and he does actually love her. I think Phelan could work as a character with a slightly softer side to him.

I can't stand the man, but I think he does care for Eileen in some fashion. When Todd wanted to blow the whole scheme apart after his needle injury, Phelan warned him off by saying Vinny could be a danger to him and his mother. Don't think he really gives two hoots about Todd, but he was genuinely worried something would happen to Eileen and did his best to keep her safe.

Softening him so they can keep him in the show.....I was hoping to see the back of him very soon

They'll probably do an Owen on him and have him blubbing in the street after being "owned" by Todd!

I agree, but I think Phelan has the chance to do a runner with Vinnie, but turns it down because of Eileen, that's where all this lovey dovey stuff is leading.

I think that Phelan is trying make Vinnie believe he's not goint soft on him as Vinnie put it but I do think phelan has developed strong feelings for Eileen but doesn't want Vinnie knowing that because phelan knows just far he'll go. I still think Vinnie will do a runner with all the money.

If it's unlikely he will be a good character forever? By the sounds of it this is a very long running SL.

Phelan has always been crooked and he's always been a user with a penchant for the finer things in life. For us to believe that he got genuine feelings for Eileen and her little terraced house in the back streets of Manchester is going to take something very special in both the writing and acting departments.
