Obviously it's been done before - would a family of "chavs" shake things up - or not

Not for me it wouldn't, I said the same thing on Cool-mate's thread about introducing Gemma's family a few days ago!!
It's been done to death already for me with the Battersby's, the Windasses & to a certain extent the Morton's!!

Corrie is the sort of street what these families live in

I don't think so. It's difficult pulling that off without resorting to stereotypes. That's the last thing Corrie needs at the moment.

In terms of new families, I'd sooner introduce Luke and Steph's parents. A stable married couple.

They need a new family with about 6 kids, teenage to mid-20s, 3 boys, 3 girls, all really hot.

Corrie has no eye candy AT ALL.

How about a family of obese people? They get benefits, watch Jeremy Kyle, eat junk food, don't keep their garden tidy, but they have a vulnerable side with good hearts. Their medical conditions and medications are explored, heart attack, We see the wife battle to lose weight, then the man suffers impotency and needs Viagra and weight loss. It can then be revealed they are brother and sister, and thats why the kids are messed up too.

The Battersby's worked well (eventually) because they were the first of their kind on the cobbles when introduced in the 90s, they were fresh and exciting, completely different from what we were used to and also because prior to their arrival, Corrie was extremely boring.

However, like NDD says it's been done to death since, not just on Corrie but other soaps and the novelty of chav families wore off over a decade ago.

I would like to see a normal family with one teenager and one preteen.

That was done before with the Mortons and it failed, it was a complete mess - too many characters introduced at one time, it was overboard. Not saying that was the only reason, soap stereotypes were full swing, poor writing and casting Sinbad as the dad (I can't even remember the character's actual name )

I thought you meant eye candy for a second haha

They tried successful middle class with Frankie Baldwin and Carla - but like the Battersby's on the other end of the scale....they both gravitate to the middle and eventually fit in.
I'm pleased they didn't axe the Nazirs like the Mortons....I really like the remaining members. I hope they're not axed because of Marc Anwar.

Well they're half way there with Fizz & Ty.

They would just be a repeat of the Battersbys.

If they're gonna do it, do it properly. Make them vile scum with no redeeming qualities.

Because what the show really needs is more repulsive characters who are thick as pig s***.

The trouble with that is that no one in the street would want anything to do with them so they'd be isolated. Viewers would hate them too.

The Battersbys started off as cartoon characters to make an impact before being toned down so much that, with the exception of Les, they weren't really the same characters they were when they started.
