Not sure if the new approach works for Eastenders..... It's like some gentle day time drama now

This really didn't need another thread. If this needs a thread then I'll go and make another one about how great it is at the moment.
It's not boring at all, it's improved in leaps. |

As we reached 6.69m (33.6%) last night, the ratings don't reflect that idea.
There is absolutely no way anyone can argue that DTC's last year on the show took the show to the brink of reality, and beyond. Bobby's saga, Kush being Arthur's dad, Gavin kidnapping, Gavin holding people hostage, Gavin pushing his sister onto Sharon's windshield, Gavin's mansion chase. I could go on. The show was a parody of itself. Now, we have characters being written much more organically. I believe them again. I believe in the families and the community and the day-to-day struggles. This focus on character has been apparent and makes it much easier to believe and invest. This is so much closer to what EastEnders was always meant to be. A slice of life. Drama will arise naturally, and not shoehorned in for a quick cheap thrill. |

I honestly don't know what people on here want from EastEnders. Nothing ever seems to be good enough. I loved the Santer period but it is universally panned on here.

I haven't watched EE for months. Knowing good characters were being axed didn't help. Knowing Lee was being axed did, however. Pointless weak character. If Vincent and Ian's 'not ' son were axed, I might watch again.

It's been improving all the time. The characters that have benefitted are Kim, Rebecca, Shakil, Vincent, Billy.
It's also great that he's using characters like Belinda and Denise more. I think Denise's baby storyline has hornmarked her as one of the biggest characters on the show now that she will share a son/daughter with Phil. |

It's not boring at all, it's improved in leaps. Though i disagree with its ''improved in leaps''. i find it absolutely mind numbing, at first i like the change in pace, but its sunk in now just how utterly dire most of the characters and storylines are, and i actually find myself wanting to see more Ronnie and Roxy, which i didnt during DTC's reign, but they are being killed off ![]() In my eyes this producer is going to be a failure along the lines of Birkwood and Lorraine newman.
