I got as far as the first breakfast of E2.

An awful lot seems to revolve around dining, which is to say not much.

Seconded. He has the perfect solution to the issue of suspending disbelief, which has gradually undermined the other current major BBC offering The Missing.

Place the drama in a world of its own which closely resembles reality, but where the slightly stilted dialogue and voluptuous lighting suggest it can't be. Once you are immersed in that world, the plot will always work whichever way he chooses to take it.

It's like an episode of Star Trek where they turn up on a planet and "It's life, Jim, but not (quite) as we know it".

My money's on the unstable brother of the lead killing the Nazi war criminal.

Plus Charlotte Riley is spying for Russia, not America and Angela Bassett is working for the CIA!

I still find his 180 degree turnaround from his Ep1 intransigence utterly unconvincing. And if that woman really is American, she needs to work on her accent.
Your telling a Golden Globe winning, Oscar nominated American movie actress who has been playing roles involving 'deep south' American accents for over twenty years that she should 'work on her accent'?

Really enjoying Molina's performance in this - he's the stand out actor or actress so far.

She does seem to be exaggerating the twang a tad too much.

That was a saucy sex scene. The Alfred Molina storyline should be interesting.

So many things happening without feeling arduously complicated, it's so absorbing to watch. It's so richly drawn and realised. I love it.

Half hour interview with Poliakoff last night on BBC2 was more interesting than the show he was plugging!

1.27m last night - Not setting the schedules on fire.

I agree.

It's a treat to see something that has not been dumbed down and requires a little intellectual effort to appreciate.

It's a pity that it some find it so difficult to properly understand (often leading them to perceive it as slow and boring).

Oh, it's this one again...always enjoy this one. "You didn't like it? Well it is a little challenging. Maybe if you were clever like me you'd see how good it actually is."

The interesting thing with comments such as the above is that they are effectively trying to deny there is any possibility that some programmes may be harder to fully understand and appreciate than others and thus, by extension, that there is no possibility that anyone can find something 'slow', 'boring', or 'all over the place', simply because they do not properly understand it.

It's fine for anyone who does not get a programme to come on here and disparage it, but should anyone have the temerity to defend it by pointing out the blindingly obvious: that a programme may be too hard to understand for some, and they are up in arms.

Well, tough luck, because the intelligence range of the human population is vast, and, thankfully, the BBC does not always insist on dumbing everything down to the lowest possible level.

So you are effectively saying that anyone who finds this programme boring is dumb? That's a pretty ignorant and narrow minded point of view.

No, of course I'm not saying that.

On that basis I would be admitting terminal stupidity, because there are plenty of programmes that bore me senseless.

It's quite possible - in fact, absolutely certain, that there are people who are perfectly well equipped to understand a programme and yet find it boring.

However, it is also quite certain that there are people who will watch certain types of drama who will not be able to understand it. You may not like it, but it's sure to be the case.

Yes. It's deceptively uncomplicated. Even the title, I suspect, has a double (maybe triple) meaning. Who exactly is "the enemy"? So many people seem to be fighting personal wars of their own, long after the conclusion of the main one over a year ago - as if to say that yes, they were victors but it sure doesn't feel it at times. Or yes, they were victors, but what exactly was it that they won?

I also love its mix of genres: spy, psychological, romance, social realism, thriller. I like how it evokes an eerie post-war paranoia that persisted in the immediate aftermath of the war. Its presence sits on the drama like a ghostly fog. I've even got used to Callum's accent. And his brother has grown on me. Most of all, I love that the writing and stories doesn't give me a clue how they might end.

Lolz. Wrong.

You are making a classic logic error, here.

All cows have four legs" does not mean "eveyrthing with four legs is a cow".

That some people do not have the intellectual capacity to understand X does NOT mean that everyone who does not like X or finds X boring does not have the intellectual capability to understand it.

On that basis, anyone who found Neighbours boring would be an idiot.

Yes, there are people who are not intellectually equipped to enjoy some programme, no, that does not mean that everyone who does not enjoy it is dim.

Do you see?
