I found this while trying to look for a rather bad but entertaining samba from years of lore and I think he's right

Fishing for votes more like.

Well, I watched it, and he wasn't a bit fishing for votes. In fact, when someone said that after Brexit and Trump, he could win SCD, he said clearly "we won't win". He actually came across very well, and I couldn't bear him when he was a politician.

I'm sure he thinks equally highly of you, but wouldn't be so ill mannered as to say so.

Well, there's definitely a toy in the vicinity.

Clever man, and underestimated I think.

Hmm..

He's just looking for attention.

Where does he go once he gets chucked out of Strictly?
Politically, he's now in the shadow of his wife
Has he got any lucrative speaking engagements lined up?

No I don't think so either.

Aren't they all?

That's true for many.

I don't necessarily think so.

We don't know - but I would think he's rather a good raconteur.

He's done himself nothing but favours on this show. He's feeling, and far from stupid, and also charming and real.

Well, he has one big gig lined up. He was born in Norwich, and is chairman of Norwich FC. He is booked to turn on the Norwich Xmas lights!

BIB - so true.

I think he may return to politics, but in the meantime I don't think he will get bored.

Looked him up on Wiki.

Not impressed with his "back catalogue."

I think it's admirable that he has gone down the academic route - a research fellow at Harvard, the world's number one university - rather than milking the corporate sector a la Jack Straw and others.

It's hard to see him making an effective return to UK politics given how things have moved on in the Labour party.

I know he's no longer an MP, but how else does a politician get their message across?

I concur with all of this.

I still think he made a mess of the fallout from the awful Baby P case when he was a minister. But he's far from a stupid man and I admire him for overcoming a stutter to make it to the front bench in Parliament.

why are people worried about his 'back catalogue? Its his dad dancing and colourful choreography from the excellent katya that has kept him in it. I have never voted for him (or labour) before...but as long as he entertains me as an individual in SCD i SHALL VOTE FOR HIM!!

Anyone else think that would have made a better ending to the drama 'The Politician's Husband' that the dude goes on SCD and takes it by storm. Don't think David Tennant would have gone for playing that though more's the pity

And a name that invites comedy - poor man.

He's a senior fellow at Harvard and a visiting professor at Kings London.
I'm sure he will find some way to keep himself occupied.

BTW - no apostrophe, OP.

Am not v interested in politicians but do know Ed Balls was an academic and then a financial journalist before he went into politics - worked for the Financial Times in the v early 1990s, and as Holly said, he's gone back to being a research fellow at Harvard

He makes me laugh and is trying v hard. He's also learning to dance properly - reminds me a bit of Mark Benton with Iveta.

If Ed thinks the best response to fascism is a spangly dance show he should probably watch Cabaret some time soon.

I don't think these sort of posts belong on an SCD thread.
