I'm guessing it was a night time thing so they could get the flowers and fruit from New Covent Garden market which I think opens at 4am. I spent most of the programme thinking the hairy fruit was going to be a type of fish and they'd also need to get to Billingsgate.
Karthik immediately identified rambutan as a Malaysian fruit right at the start. For me, this illustrates a major weakness of this task each year -- the obscure items are only obscure if none of the candidates knows them; often one does so that team has a big advantage which, unless Lord Sugar is looking to augment his pub quiz team, is not relevant to the process.

I just watched this and had to ask...are Tesco, Asda and other large department stores banned (like the Internet)?
If it was me I'd have made my first port of call the nearest of those or John Lewis or wherever was nearest as I'm sure you'd get 2 or 3 items in them.

They seem to stick to small independent or high class stores with this task every year and almost always struggle to haggle because they either have no margin to work with (indies) or are too high class to offer discounts and if they do it's usually not worth the travel and effort for the £1 per item they save or whatever is offered because they wear out the shop owner with begging.

I don't think they are 'banned' as such, but you HAVE to negotiate a discount (even if it's only £1.) With Tesco etc the price is the price, although I might try to get 30% off next weeks shopping!!!
