Thanks for getting us back on track! I think it is so sad that Finn has no-one else to talk to except a comatose person. He loved his Dad and is devastated at the verdict and seems to have no "grown up" (I certainly don't include Emma in that) to confide in. I am not sure that baring all to a stranger in a coma is the best thing for said comatose person as it may affect his recovery?

I think it's sad that Finn has no confidant right now too.
Everyone else is far too busy with their own lives to pay him any attention.
I like that he can't believe his Dad was suicidal, how long will it be until he susses his mother out?
We'll have to wait until later to see if Kasim can hear Finn whilst in his coma.
Will it turn into some sort of Stockholm syndrome with Kasim latching on to Finn because he could hear his voice while in the prison of his own body?
Will Finn save him twice?

I do wonder if they'll tease for a bit whether or not Kasim actually witnessed anything and if so, will Emma try to manipulate him in the same way she did with Ashley though? Make him think he's remembering things wrong.

This is soooo boring. The situation Finn is in is sad but, if the writers' are going to plagiarise sls, they might at least make them interesting.

Maybe they will redeem it by having him remember Emma on the bridge although, in reality, the chances of someone awaking from a long-term coma with memories of the accident would be little to none.

I just wish they would find a proper story for Finn.

I don't find it boring, I'm just chuffed he's actually got some dialogue and a whiff of direction. He's spent 2 years propping up the bar in the Woolie and looking forlorn over a diet coke. This is 30000% better than that.

Ever since Robbie got ditched it was like Finn may as well have been ditched with him - aside from a few standout bits like Val's death.
Finn has lost a lot of loved ones in the past couple of years, no wonder he's latched onto something that is a little out of the ordinary.

I look forward to the future development of his character, and am quite positive that his character is finally being invested in.

I'm sure it will, but it was hardly going to be plain sailing with Kasim waking up from his coma and deciding that Finn was the love of his life - where's the drama in that?

I'm glad the story is moving towards a depression/grief storyline - it's really always been about that - Finn's latching onto Kasim was a way of coping so I'm glad to see it's not all going to brushed under the carpet just because/if they get together.


I think the show has done enough with Aaron, Robert and Finn himself to show that there's nothing in a stereotype. But sometimes, yes, men like Kylie.

What if Kasim wakes up and says the CD belongs to a work mate?

BIB: I'm a little surprised they haven't gone down the route of one of Finn's boyfriends fancying one of his brothers. Mind you, Finn hasn't had enough boyfriends to do something like this.

Obviously with them being straight nothing would happen but it would be an interesting storyline.

Imagine one of them clapping eyes on Ross, and just going SWOON. Totally understandable, obviously.

I know Emmerdale have covered none stereotypical gay characters but it's taken a regressive step with this story line in my opinion. I don't like the the way Finn wanted to know if Kasim was gay and talked about gaydars and Kylie CDs. I sometimes feel that Emmerdale doesn't like Finn as they make him out to be so pathetic and ridiculous and that is way before this supposed grief story line.

I just don't feel that one stereotypical example is regressive when there are a multitude of gay characters in the soap, none of whom are defined by their sexuality. and none of them are stereotypical.

I think the problem with a lot of Finn's stuff is that it's played for laughs, and he's not really taken seriosuly as a character.
This story is a little step in the right direction, with him dealing with his grief, while the boyfriend angle has been added just because - though I suspect this coma patient might remember something important about the crash at a later date and therefore the boyfriend part is more necessary for plot. Though I'm happy that someone is finally taking a romantic interest in Finn after all this time.

Having a variety of gay/bisexual characters is actually a good thing. I like that Aaron, Robert, Lawrence, Ronnie and Finn are all tonally different to each other.

We don't know anything about Kasim's personality yet to really decide if he's a stereotype or not.

Definitely and I think the gaydar and Kylie stuff is essentially part of that. Aaron was laughing at him basically when he was seeking advice on this rubbish and justifiably so tbf.

I still remember Finn's earlier boyfriend who was a nurse I think Finn and hospitals seem to have an integral link. Anyway the way he treated him was atrocious and pathetic and once again like he was was fundamentally a comedy character. He wasn't capable of telling the boyfriend that he'd gone off him and instead decided to treat him like crap so he would finish with him. There didn't even seem to be anything particularly wrong with his boyfriend either.

That's what gets most to me about Finn, he is supposed to be nice but he isn't actually nice at all in my view.

I'm not saying that Kasim is a stereotypical gay man necessarily, I'm suggesting that Finn talking about gaydars and Kylie CDs is Emmerdale's way of bringing in stereotypical ideas of gay men. Aaron even said this when talking to Finn.

I think the poster sam has hit the nail on the head saying that Finn is a bit of a joke character. He is given all the stupid stuff to say and do.

At least, for a soap character, he's certainly nice in that he is different to most other characters and has more of a moral compass than others too.

I think he's a bit of a coward and doesn't have much experience with relationships as a result of this. I don't think the way he treated Darren takes away from his niceness. He based his relationship on falsehoods and pretended to like things he didn't so Darren would like him. Again, part of him not being taken very seriously. It was never going to last.

I still think he's a decent lad. Bit of a weird storyline, but there you go, at least he's not still sat at the bar eating cheese and onion crisps and looking glum.

They've definitely treated Finn as a bit of a comedy character over the last couple of years though. All they've given him is dressing in silly costumes, being comically annoyed with Ross, and making waspish comments. Which is actually so weird, because at the start, they used him way better - the scenes when he thought he'd been date raped, and the ones where he found his Mum, were really good. Since then, diddly squat. Until now.

Ah who knows where this is going. It's never going to be anything even vaguely normal with Crazy Homicidal Momma around, is it?
