I don't see James as the new anyone because I think he's really come into his own as James nightingale

Youre not the first to draw the comparison but I don't think thier that similar

Brendan was a great character. One of oaks finest. Legendary even.

But I absolutely love James. He's the best and most interesting male of the cast and continues to engage me.

I think while they're both anti heros, they carry themselves differently. Brendan was a hot head, unpredictable. James is more cut throat and rational

i guess what draws them together is they're both gay, villian-type characters but underneath quite fragile with an abusive past. I see why people draw the comparisons just for those reasons.

No he isn't and won't be.

Brendan was Brendan and James is James for good and bad. From the description in the OP you can equally say Ste is the new Brendan or James is the new Ste which clearly isn't the case.

New.
There have already been many discussion son this. For me he is as good as a character as Brendan ever was, and prob the closest thing we have to a Brendan replacement. But so many years have passed now, i like James to be a character in his own right. He is awesome and played by a fine actor one of the best in the soap right now.

James is a far better character than Brendan in so many ways.

Agreed. The only thing common between Brendan and James is that they're not fantastic but they're nothing alike at all

I'd be inclined to agree!

Not even close. TPTB have been trying to come up with the new Brendan ever since Brendan's exit, but there's only one Brendan Brady.

For me he needs to be around for a heck of a lot longer and be developed and sustained in such ways to earn that label.

I'm not sure we'll see many more "iconic" characters because they won't be allowed to hang around or develop not because of any lack of potential. Characters seem to be too throw away these days and sometimes literally crash and burn.

I actually find James to be closer to a Patrick than a Brendan

I tend to agree. I think Gregory is incredible, one of the strongest in the cast and he plays a character that is truely layered and has a kind of ambiguous history making it a writers wet dream. 😂 I always look forward to episodes more if I know he's going to appear. Gregory/James has a great screen presence. If this is the kind of interest he can gain in a year, who knows what the future holds for him? Personally speaking, I haven't been this interested in a character since Dennis rickman is 2003-05, EE. ( not saying he is anything like Dennis before anyone decides to chop my head of). 😑

While there are some similarities with the two, I actually find James a far more interesting character than Brendan ever was.

Brendan had his moments but the show went overkill with the angst and storylines for him and he felt burned out before his anticlimatic departure.

James on the otherhand doesn't feel that way and hopefully won't suffer from overexposure. What the show is doing with him right now works in the character's favour.

James can be manipulative and has done some nasty things but he isn't a gangster or a killer. Brendan had more of that vibe, whereas James is more cunning and more believable.

James is for me one of Hollyoaks best ever characters and long may he stay I hope

Loved Brendan and really like James but I don't think the two are similar at all.
