Well they have said because the new UI is HTML5 and cloud based they can add stuff really quick so that would be great if more apps appeared.

1998 was start of DTT in UK with On Digital. I have not seen them reference it.

As far as I know BT as well as Humax retail boxes are not starting the new software rollout till mid January. Even then it will take a month or two before everyone has it.
Some that use Talk Talk seem to have the new software update.

If you don't want the so-called 'improved' features, the delay is great news. Long may it continue.

So you actually want to prolong your agony?

I have always found it is much easier to get it over with and start getting used to it.

What agony? I don't care much what they do, though if as I suspect I don't like it, it will be a factor when I get to contract renewal time. So indefinite delays is fine by me as I have no issues at all with their current interface, on my UHD box..

Sky has already done the 'graphics/image rich' menu thing, which I still don't like and I have no reason to think the BT one will be any better, so they will lose that particular minor advantage, and choosing which platform to go with in the summer is already a close call (I currently have both).

The BT change could tip the balance partly because I already have an issue with them - their SD and HD football channels are of deliberately lower quality than the Sky platform versions. They could choose better quality but have gone down the 'lower quality to allow access by slower FTTC connections' route and that's already a niggle, so now another niggle and well, I said it above. But if sky refuse to continue my current half price offer, well that would be an overriding factor and I would ditch them instead. Isn't competition a wonderful thing?

You also don't have a reason to think it will be any worse. I have been a little surprised at the comments of some forum members. They have been very critical of the new UI, despite not having actually seen it in action. I read of one who has even admitted that he disconnects his box from his router every night to avoid it. I wish him luck with that. He'll need it. This update is not just a cosmetic makeover. It will alter how the box operates fundamentally. It will become the TV equivalent of a Chromebook, a terminal for a central server (albeit with TV tuners and hard drive built in). The User Interface will be, effectively, a website to which the box is permanently connected. Changes and updates can be incorporated as simply as updating any other website. That, in turn, means that if sufficient customers don't like it, it can be rewritten quite easily.

So far, on these forums, I have read of just two people who have the update already. One likes it, the other doesn't. Either way, it is hardly a big enough sample to form a dispassionate opinion. I don't have it yet. I suspect that my own update is still several weeks away. I look for it every day, though, and am keeping an open mind.

Make your mind up mate, do you want it or not because you are throwing out some really confusing signals.

Rather than faffing about with fancy fluff on its UI it needs to sort out the fundamentals like getting accurate recording working consistently.

(two days running it has mucked up the Australia / Pakistan test highlights recording for me)

It's pretty obvious if you read and digest my posts instead of picking out two bits out of context. In words of one syllable: I don't care much what they do - but I do care a bit.

There is no agony as you suggested, it will just be one of several factors to consider at contract renewal time. You're fired.

As we all know Youview was built by BBC and other including BT to give better viewing for Freeview users and give a roll back service to the freeview EPG using the internet and on top more channels too as our leadership wish to sell off as much of public TV space and as we know some has already gone to private sector and more this year is to go, SO Freeview is getting very limited to how to give bandwidth to channels for better viewing and new channels at price that TV will pay.

7 pm on Sunday 15th November 1998 was the time DTT ( Digital Transmitted Television ) born to allow multi channel TV on a already limited space and on the release on old channels there was hope for more BUT we let down ....

2018 is limited to when our so called leadership are to stop public broadcasting using a number channels for Europe and also change software put more channels on smaller number channels space, I think. ?

We need Freeview & Youview to fight for public TV in the UK as private companies are making MP's sell space for there own needs not the public...
