Alana was pretty astute on the gin task - she did her market research and knew that colouring the gin was frowned upon. They could have gone with a coloured bottle though.

Her business is minuscule compared with the others...six types of cake, that's it. Only Grainne has a smaller set up.
She only knew coloured gin was frowned on because the expert guy advised them so. You could argue that gave their team an unfair advantage since we never saw the other team receive that advice.

Courtney was keen on making the gin pink and only didn't do so because Alana relayed the advice about it being frowned upon.

Don't think that is the case because I think that she mentioned that gin should be clear before she went to see the expert. And even if she did not know before then quite obviously she did the right thing and and asked the expert

And with regards to the other team having a "unfair advantage" it may well be that they did not ask the ask question because they were fixated on colour right that the start.

We did not see the distiller warn Trishna off coloured gin -- but Karren did a piece to camera at the distillery on how their artificially coloured gin was a mistake, so unless Karren is a gin aficionado, we can assume the distiller said it first.

People seem to be forgetting that Alana pursued the idea of a raspberry flavoured gin even when the expert told her nobody ever used this flavour before. When she tasted the gin the raspberry flavour of the gin did not come out and she just added more flavour. It did not occur her to think why had experts in the industry never used raspberry in gin before.

People were saying they could not taste the raspberry which was key to the product. Fair enough she made the right call of the colouring but getting the flavour right was her key role which she failed to do. Had they lost the task she probably would have been fired after all you cannot sell a raspberry flavoured gin where you cannot taste the raspberry!

When it comes to taste there will always be a degree of subjectivity though. If I remember correctly, the guys representing the pub chain liked the fact that the gin was quite dry and not too strongly flavoured. One could argue that if she had made it too sweet they might not have ordered as many units as they did.

"Coloured gin is frowned upon" - by who? A quick gander with Goggle has come up with several coloured gins for example Ink Gin (blue), several types of dark gin and Slamseys Blackcurrant Gin.

If Sugar want's people with ideas, who break boundries, push the envelope and all the other buzz words, he can't expect the same candidates to stick to some old fogies standards.

I'd like to have known if this task had taken place had their been a Muslim, teatotal or alcohlic candidate still in the running.

At the pub pitch I really liked the guy sitting in the middle in the white shirt, his input was very good he knew what he was talking about and gave important feedback about 'not just being unique for uniques sake' I guess he is the leader of the 3 and he spoke very well.
