If he kills Phil off I won't be impressed. I don't really like Phil as a person but his character has always had good storylines and brings a lot to the show.

The BBC would never go for that, and its ahem, been done anyway!!!!

EastEnders can't be sold. The BBC make it themselves from their own production company. Its not like Bake Off where the rights come up for review every few years.

If the BBC decided to not make it any more, another production company could take over, though, couldn't they?

Only if the BBC sold the rights to do so. It would be more of a money spinner for them to continue making it and then sell it to another channel for big money. A commercial channel would pay big money cos it would bring them viewers and cash from ads!

No not EastEnders. Same with Blue Peter, if the BBC called it quits it would end.

Only shows sold to the BBC by outside production companies on a rights deal can move from network to network. In house productions which is what EastEnders is can't and won't.

Completely wrong. In house productions cannot be sold. Only shows made by outside productions companies can.

Yes they can. The BBC sell the formats and rights for shows to be remade worldwide. They also sell in house productions to be aired worldwide on other networks and not just for airing on the BBC

The BBC cannot sell something it does not owns? You are completely wrong.

Third party companies can sell their programmes to whoever they want and the BBC cannot control or stop that like with the bake off or when Bernie sold the f1 highlight to itv. Top gear format in addition to the actual uk show has been sold to a fair few countries and is a big money spinner for the BBC

Here you go BBC worldwide. https://www.bbcworldwide.com

No third party company produces EastEnders, The BBC do themselves. Its an In House production.

They sell formats like Strictly world wide but BBC Productions produce EastEnders with all BBC resources at the BBC Elstree studio.

If EastEnders was to be sold to Sky then EastEnders would have to move to an entirely new set outside of the BBC Elstree studio and have an entirely outside team not connected to the BBC brought in to replace all outgoing BBC Staff. So a whole brand new production team would need to be set up.

Whereas shows produced by outside production companies such as Love Productions who make Bake Off, can move to network to network with ease as its Love Productions who employ all the staff.

You don't seem to understand.

Rights for sport is not something the BBC is responsible for and is an entirely different discussion not related to this. The Sporting bodies related to F1 or the Football will sell to the highest bidder. The BBC have no control over this.

Third Party Companies such as Love Productions can sell shows to whoever they want once the rights come up for review. EastEnders doesn't have this issue as its produced In House.

Formats for shows like SCD is similar to Rights for sport and isn't anything remotely similar to the BBC selling an In House Production to a rival network.

You seem confused with how TV works. I will give you an example. When the BBC axed Doctor Who no other channel could pick it up as the BBC produced it In House, so the only way it could return was when the BBC brought it back themselves in 2005.

Well other companies could have made Doctor Who as long as the BBC were involved s Spielberg was close to making it once in the 90's before they made the Paul McGann movie.

And you've just said it, as long as the BBC were involved.

The notion the BBC would sell EastEnders to Sky is something that will never happen. Mainly because it can't. Sure the BBC could sell Sky a format but then Sky would have to build an Albert Square of its own and then there is the issue of characters, the BBC owns Dot Cotton for example and would they ban the use of her character on another network. This is before you even get to issues with actors contracts.

EE moving to a new channel would be more complicated than Brexit.

The only person. Confused is you love. You should have clicked the link I posted. The purpose of BBC worldwide is to sell BBC productions worldwide and create an income. If the BBC stopped making Eastenders to show on the BBC they could continue making it and sell the production via BBC worldwide to Channel 4 who have already expressed an interest in showing it.

Re the f1 rights, my reference to that was because the BBC used to produce all the highlights and filming that was then shown in other countries. That was a BBC production sold on, very complicated a bit too difficult for you on a Saturday night night tho.

The BBC could have sold the rights to dr who.

but obviously I could say the sky is blue and the grass is green and you would say the opposite so I have put you on ignore and will leave you to try and convince someone else you are right

Why are you being so rude?

and I'm not confused. You posted a link to BBC Worldwide, BBC Worldwide sells BBC productions and formats to foreign countries as well as overseeing its digital releases such as DVDs. Not rival UK channels.

Give me one example of the BBC selling a show it created in house and selling it to a different UK network.

What's stopping the BBC from producing and then selling eastenders to another uk channel?

(I get that they wouldn't and would be crazy to do so)

I wondered myself if they have been ordered to reduce the cast to save funds. Maybe its more to do with the millions its costing for the new set.

I don't think the BBC are allowed to take money from commercial networks unless it comes from the licence fee.

BBC Worldwide is more about selling BBC programmes aboard I think.

No thanks if it goes to any other channel there will be 6 million adverts per minute, I bet Channel 4 want it though, the swines, they nicked The great British bore off.

Yes if EastEnders was to go anywhere it would be Channel Four. Sky would never touch it and I can't see ITV wanting it. I think if the BBC axed EastEnders that would be the end of it. However as they are paying 15 million for a new set its highly unlikely its going anywhere.

Where has all this axing talk come from?

Sell it via BBC Worldwide to whom??? BBC Worldwide does not sell BBC shows to other UK networks. It sells them to other countries. The networks BBC Worldwide operates with in the UK are Watch, Drama etc. There could be a slim chance EastEnders could end up on Watch if the BBC call it a day due to the BBC connection but I doubt Watch could afford the 60 million a year EastEnders costs to make.

When and where did Channel Four express an interest in buying EastEnders? got a link

and how would the BBC producing a show for a commericial network happen exactly? Government guidelines under the royal charter don't allow it.
