I may have misheard, but Chrissie said while handing the eviction notice to Diane that she wants them out by next week, but aren't the Sugdens legally entitled to 2 months notice to find a new place before they have to move out? Surely Chrissie isn't allowed to just turf them out as quick as that?

Remember this is Emmerdale where people are allowed to evict people at a moments notice all manner of folk are allowed to wander around with shotguns shooting whoever they see fit the real life laws of the land don't apply and why should they.

That's not so strange many landlords know very little about tenants rights, of they pretend they don't hoping the tenant doesn't either.

I've known several who have been rather shocked when they realise they have to give proper notice and shock horror repair boilers etc too

There are landlords that don't abide by the rules and Chrissie is just an example of this.

Although, after Diane threw the brick through the window and has been filmed threatening Lachlan, Chrissie does have a right to evict them for unreasonable behaviour - (and before anybody mentions the shooting, it is not common knowledge yet though as the Whites continue to deny it).

Where is she evicting them from? Doesn't Diane live at the B&B now and that belongs to Eric? I might be mistaken, I didn't pay a lot of attention in the last year or so.

Brook cottage (round the corner from the cafe / across the road from the vets)

Her & Doug moved in there when Ashley & family moved back into their old home.
Bernice joined them when she left Home Farm

Why doesn't Bernice just rinse Larry in her divorce, Surley he would have to provide a place for her to live?

Thanks. I missed that.

I'm pretty sure that there is a clause in tenancy agreement similar to employment contracts where instant dismissal/eviction is possible due to extreme circumstances. Violence against landlords and their family will be grounds to instantly evict

Yes, I also assumed there would be some sort of equivalent to the 'Gross Misconduct' clause that exists under Employment Law and tbf, it would be a little unfair if such a thing didn't exist in Tenancy Agreements also. And we saw Chrissie pick up the phone as she told Lachlan they'd get their own back, then saw her presenting them with an Eviction Notice, so I'm assuming her lawyer would have been involved, who would know the law even if she didn't.

What the hell did Diane expect? She terrorises her landlord's family and then thinks that she should still be allowed to live in the house that's owned by him? Make them pay for what they did to Andy, yes. Don't go making threats to them, trying to ruin their business in a blatantly obvious way or throwing a brick through their windowin broad daylight if you want to carry on living in the house. She basically got herself and the others evicted. She doesn't come across as very bright.

It can take long enough to get rid of a bad tenant who doesn't pay rent ( they have to be 8 weeks in arrears before you can issue a Section 8 notice ) , one would think that whilst some tenants may not know their rights that someone like Diane and all those around her would know better and make Chrissie go via the courts which can take ages , but then this is dramatic licence and is part of a storyline.

I do have to agree.

Diane has decided that they are appalling people but then reacts surprised when they bite back to her trying to damage their business (so cost them money), libel them, threaten them and actually vandalise their home in a way that could have caused serious injury?

I'm not excusing the Whites framing Andy, (,though hes far from an innocent that has never hurt anynody) but I'd have called the Police on Diane as well. I'd also have looked at the cottage snd probably have looked at a libel case and restraining order.

True!

Yeah, I'd imagine that a lot of tenants wouldn't know all that much about their rights unless it comes to a point where they have to fight their landlord on an unfair eviction.

There's far too many dodgy landlords. At our last tenancy, the landlord was a gas engineer but we'd found out that the electrics and gas fittings were unsafe and illegal from him cutting corners to get it out for rent faster. We reported him to the Gas Safe Registry and he evicted us for being 'unreasonable tenants' when our contract came up for renewal.

I agree, you'd think after Lawrence's threat while they protesting near his property, they'd focus first on moving to another house so that he couldn't hurt them back. Also, Diane has to be the worst vandal ever. No wonder Robert didn't trust her with the truth when he found out.

Serves Diane right for lobbing a brick through the Whites window and standing at the bottom of their drive sending their customers away. What exactly did she think was going to happen when she did that? That they'd just ignore it and let her stay in the cottage?! Also doesn't Lawrence own the hair salon? He should turf Bernice out of there too, Diane'd be mortified at losing them their home and business over her stupidity and blinkered views of her darling Sugden's. She should try taking her rose tinted spectacles off when looking at her own family before sitting in judgement of someone else's.

Lawrence would be wise not to flex his financial muscles at someone who would be entitled ( legally if not morally ) to a large amount of his wealth in an upcoming divorce.

Also Chrissie was a moron to let Andy know what she had done, why is she not letting Diane know about the shooting.

Or why don't Lawrence and Chrissie tell Rebecca about how Robert caused her dads heart attack and set him up with a rent boy? It would certainly sour her on him.

He did but relented weeks later and gave it to Bernice

That has absolutely no bearing on her rights as Chrissie's tenant. Is she Chrissie's tenant? Isn't she Lawrence's and it's just another part of the estate Chrissie has appropriated?

On the other hand what do the White's s expect? That Diane should shut up about what they did to Andy because they're in a position of power over her? They should be glad she hasn't t gone to the police and be trying to appease her!

Once again, serious fault on BOTH sides.

Diane did go to the police. She brought in the video footage of Lachlan fishing the vase out of the stream.
