Are there any owners of Humax Fox T2 pvr?

I attempted to offload some recorded programmes from mine via the USB port using a flash drive. It displayed onscreen that it was copying but when i plugged the flash drive into my pc and opened it up, nothing was there even though the stick showed 2gb of memory used!

Am i doing something wrong, if so what?

The manual states;

Supported features according to USB file system

ext3: Read, Copy (Digital TV/Radio, MP3, JPEG, XviD)
FAT: Read, Copy (Digital TV/Radio, MP3, JPEG, XviD)
NTFS: Read (MP3, JPEG, XviD)

which seems to suggest i can only copy to a flash drive formatted in 'ext3' or 'FAT', but my stick will only format in exFAT, FAT32, or NTFS.

I think you can only do it by installing the modified software that someone developed.

I previously had a Humax Foxsat pvr (the Freesat model) and taking files off that was a piece of cake. Beginning to regret selling it now and i bought the Fox T2 for the reason it was the last they made with a USB port.

Use FAT32, FAT is a "family" of formats of which 32 is just one. The Humax should be OK with FAT32.

NB you can only copy SD recordings unencrypted, it won't let you copy HD recordings without the custom firmware.

Thanks for that. Will give it a go and see what i get. All my progs are in SD as i find that ok to view and obviously takes up less room on the drive than HD.

Still no luck on this chris. Formatted flash drive in FAT32, plugged in Humax, selected programmes to copy over to drive, showed it was copying, but when i open it up on pc i got nothing yet it clearly shows the stick has 1gig of something on it!

Could be that the files are Hidden or it thinks they are System files (which Windows hides by default). You could check and make Hidden and System files visible and see if that reveals them

It's not letting me get that far chris. I plug in but when clicking to open it, it just displays as "this folder is empty". I can only search hidden files/folders that are already on the computer and though the flash is basically an external 'drive', there is no other provision to search it. I'll have a look at the sub forum tealady mentioned.

You don't need to be able to search for Hidden files or even have any Hidden files anywhere on your system to change that setting. You just change it and if there are any Hidden files anywhere they now get listed alongside any other files as normal.

If you have made the setting change to "unhide" Hidden files and still cannot see anything on the flash drive then that implies the files are not Hidden in a way Windows understands. They could be flagged as System files which are also hidden by default. So you could also untick that option as well.

If the files still refuse to appear then you may have to dig a bit deeper. One thing to do is right click on the flash drive icon and select Properties from the pop-up menu and see what file system it is using. PVRs tend to use a flavour of Linux file system which Windows can't read natively. If somehow the drive has been reformatted by the Humax that could explain why the files are invisible. Though I would have thought it might not be able to display the used space as per your earlier screenshot.

Wtf have Humax done?!! Why all this faff and the need to start installing custom software? Why haven't Humax done this at the factory? It's like building a new car with a rubbish engine, then telling the customer they can make it run better if they get the spanners out and start modifying the damn engine!

The cynic within makes me think this must have been part of the drive towards stopping pvr owners from taking files off the internal hdd as i think i'm correct in saying the Fox T2 was the last pvr made with a usb port? Current models don't have one afaik.

Models prior to the Fox T2 were 'abc'. Plug flash drive in usb, go through onscreen menu, shift file to usb flash, job done!! And much faster too plus once the files were on your pc, you could convert them into whatever you wanted.

I cannot format a flash drive in that.

I've formatted in FAT32. My only other option is NTFS.

Th reason Humax don't make it easy to lift recordings off the hard drive is quite simple. You are not supposed to be doing it.

Under Copyright law a PVR can only really be used to time shift programmes. ie you record the broadcast then watch the recording at a later time, once only, then delete it. Keeping the recording in some sort of archive or library for repeated viewing is likely to infringe the copyright in the programme.

Mind you having said that you stand more chance of winning a quadruple Lottery Rollover Jackpot without buying a ticket than having the rozzers beat down your door and drag you off kicking a screaming to the local nick for doing this.

You don't need any custom software.

Copying SD stuff is straightforward. HD is bit more fiddly as it is copy protected, but it can be done. T&C say we're not allowed to say how.

If you connect it to your router, you can copy programmes to a PC using FTP. It just gets seen as a storage device.

Can you pm me what you did then? If not no problem. My files are all in SD.

Visit hummy.tv A set of forums for Humax devices. The Wiki page section of the T2 forum gives a lot of detail on many legitimate issues.

It's been a while since I did any transferring but I seem to remember having to install a extFS driver(Paragon extFS, it's free but slow). It's not needed for direct transfer using FTP.
