The only other actors who were on that type of contract were Betty Driver (Betty) and Bev Callard (Liz).

I think it was only applied to the 'secondary' established cast because ITV were paying them too much for doing relatively little.
Stephen Hancock who played her husband Ernest complained about only being paid for the episodes he appeared in, so they had him killed in a wages snatch at Baldwin's factory!

Phew, hope Em is back on the cobbles soon. Her and Rita must go out on the lash upon her return, a sweet sherry or 10 next door

Maybe Spider will come back to break the news that Emily fell off a boulder at Machu Picchu and then hook up with Toyah again.

I guessing Eileen has looked at current storylines and thought 'I best out of there'.

The longer Emily stays in Peru the more nonsensical it becomes.
Since she left for Peru at the start of this year has there been any on screen mention of the fact Emily is still out there?

Corrie seems to like to simplify what should be complex stories and then complicate the easy ones ...
A very good, accurate and perceptive comment you make here.

I really hope the actress does return to give Emily a lovely departure story if this is true!

I'd like a few weeks of her helping out other characters around her with their problems as she does before peacefully passing away or something!

If they do go down the passing away route, I do hope she receives a more respectful send off than Betty and Deirdre, both of which were sadly disappointing
Eileen Derbyshire is still alive though! The actresses who played Deirdre and Betty had died in real life.

Most likely will leave but nothing in this article (even the comments) confirm it. She has extended her break and the are CURRENTLY no plans to bring her back, why would there be if she hasn't given a return date the cannot plan and script her return. Plus the source states unlikey. Once again The Sun making 2+2=5 from simple snippets of conversation (although in this case 2+2=5 is likely the correct answer)

I thought it was obvious form the writing of her exit scene that she wouldn't be back.

She probably had an arrangement with Corrie that she'd "be in touch" if she decided to return. Corrie haven't heard anything from her one way or the other, so technically their response that "We have had no indication that she does not want to return in the future" is technically correct, it doesn't actually deny she's left. I'm sure they've had no indication from the actress who played Kelly Crabtree that she does not want to return in the future either, but that doesn't mean they didn't write her out!

Me neither.

One thing for certain though; Eileen will definitely not appear on the likes of This Morning to confirm or to deny it.

This confirms what I think we already suspected.

Seems she left on her own terms - as befitting a very private lady.
And that's they way it should be, of course some will say for selfish reasons she needs to return to have a proper ending BUT she is 85 and has put herself first and the show second which is entirely right and we should all support her.

55 years on the cobbles is no mean feat and now it's her time to enjoy her retirement and spend her autum years with her family and friends enjoying the rewards her stretch on Corrie has brought her.

Sensible lady. She knows that the show she was once on is not the same thing anymore. It's called Coronation Street only in name now. It bears no relationship in quality of writing or acting to anything it once was, even not that many years ago. I've stopped watching it about 2 months ago after having watched since the early 80's. Real life is now more interesting than watching poor, unrealistic scripts being played out by poor and under rehearsed actors.

Eileen Derbyshire you are well rid. You were too classy for the tripe they now serve up.
This is all conjecture of course.

I don't blame her. She must be so ashamed to be associated with such dire nonsense.

But accurate, nonetheless.
