Belinda has left the Square to go travelling and Kyle is leaving shortly. Stacey hasn't got a job anymore and Martin is the breadwinner but he works in a market stall and he won't be earning a lot of money. how can they afford to pay monthly rent bills?

These houses would be worth at least £500k in real life so none of them would be able to afford them even if about 12 of them clubbed together

Didn't Martin say he needed £500 for the rent? Surely that's weekly as even out of London you'd not get a house that size for so little. He must sell an awful lot of bananas

Rent is extortionate in London. Crazy prices as I'm experiencing. Crazy.

There's also Kyle living there at the moment and he's earning. SOC has only just moved them to the house, so I doubt that the rent sagas will be forgotten very easily.

Who owns the house anyway? An unseen landlord?

Does Janine own it?

They mentioned they were struggling when the salon wasn't doing well. I can't see how they will be able to pay it without either taking in lodgers or robbing a bank

It's not been referenced on screen that she sold up but Martin said the other day in the market a comment on the landlord as if he was male but he could just mean the guy at the letting agent.

£500 a week would be pretty realistic tbh

gottit

Stacey will end up in the mini mart during Denise's maternity leave !

but they will still have to take lodgers in though - always thought of that house as the house with an endless number of fairly large rooms.

on a serious note - and because I live on the other side of the North Sea - I have the flwg questions:

How much rent do you estimate they pay pcm ?

How much housing benefits could they get a month?

Ditto child benefits ?

Would Stacey be able to get unemployment benefits - if so how much (its around 70-80 quid a month innit?)

How much is Martin likely to have as take home pay a month ? (does he get paid by Ian?)

so in short, what is their net income - when Kylie leaves - and presuming they don't get a lodger straight away: Martin net income + all benefits less rent and utility bills.

If you got a kid and unemployed, you can normally get income support up till the child is 5, however she married and her spouse has a job so not sure she be entitled to that, I'm sure the would get tax credits, child and working of some sort, but not sure how that works.

If their income below a certain amount she could get some housing benefit top up.

The problem you have with soaps, is why they harp on about money problems they never actually bother to dealt into welfare or benefits which a high percentage rely on to survive.

If we say Martin is on minimum wage it still wouldn't be enough to pay for everything.

so the way things are now, they aren't entitled to much - also Lily & Rebecca being well over 5 years old. Meantime looked at houses for rent in the area - found one - just under 2,400/month. So the 500 per week others have quoted is probably right,

But how come the Fowlers would get next to nothing, in their current circumstances, when a the Ghanian student with 8 kids and wife get a big house and 40,000 per year ? bet BBC would not dare introduce a family like that on the square

No, the more I think of it, Derek will come down the chimney with something to save them - from ending up in emergency accommodation.
