I couldn't believe my ears when one of the contestants, on the way to purchase the next item, wondered out loud: 'Is Morocco in Turkey?' and they all sheepishly mumbled 'I don't know'!

These people are looking to become a business partner of Lord Sugar, with an injection of £250K to get them started. How come they got this far through the elimination process with so little knowledge of the world around them?

The pre-selection process is clearly deficient. You get total idiots on the programme.

Total idiots deserve to be treated properly and with respect, especially by highly experienced elders who they might look up to.

As with many other reality shows, contestants often act stupid because they think it's funny or endearing to the viewers. One might hope that The Apprentice attracts a different quality of contestants than Big Brother, but it's all entertainment ATEOTD, and producers are not above encouraging stooges.

It's also entirely possible that they're genuinely ignorant about world geography. Everyone has their own skill set. Many of us will know someone who's intelligent and highly educated, but lacks common sense in many ways.

Why did none of them seem to know what a Tagine was, how it was pronounced or where it was from? I thought this was fairly common knowledge.

They knew what the Moroccan pot was but didn't try the most obvious thing of find a restaurant and asking if they had an old battered one they could have for like a fiver.

The thing is a middle eastern/north African sort of thing so a Turkish shop may of had one in possibly but a long shot especially when you saw it was a Turkish/Greek Deli shop.

The main problem was that they didn't realize that the guy on the other end of the phone didn't speak very good English and thus double check what they was after

I'm pretty sure you can get one from Asda, they're not exactly rare or exotic. London is probably a different ballgame when it comes to shopping though, fewer department stores and more boutiques and specialty shops.

Just what I was going to say. A 24hr tesco would do it

But what discount will you get from one of those stores at 2am? There probably will be no one with the ability to make such a decision around at that time and it would probably take a week to sort out permission to film in the store.

For you and me, but the rules of the game are the teams must negotiate a discount and Gladys on till number 3 is not allowed to offer 20 per cent off, so supermarkets are effectively ruled out. This is also why Jessica spent god knows how long trying to get a pound off her dad's cigars.

Otherwise, the task would just be shopping, especially as supermarket prices are probably lower even without discounts. One imagines the idea is to give Lord Sugar a steer as to whether he is going into business with someone who can get a good price on 100,000 widgets for their new factory rather than a team who can select next day delivery from Amazon.

The reference to Asda/Tesco was merely to point out that a tagine is not an exotic item, and it was surprising that they didn't know what it was. Not that they could/would have purchased it there, for as you say, there would be no negotiating on price, which was part of the task.

Other items would be much harder to find, like the cigars, black soap, and the Indian dress.

Sometimes it's just the fact they have a word printed on a page with a few more details and thats all they have to go on. Now some words are spoken totally differently than how they actually are written.

These items are picked for a reason, most cultures as such will stick together so you need to work out where the Moroccan group are based around and also the Indian to buy the dress etc so its more about who can work out the best route and the price after spending 30 mins sorting out what the hell is most of the items.

Is there an area of London where there are a lot of Moroccans though? I live in North London and know a couple of second generation Moroccan families through my son's boxing club, but I've never known any particular part of London that they tend to live or gather.

Seems like it http://www.moroccolondon.co.uk/uk-mo...munity-london/

And all very close to central london so would of made an easy stop off, the number of restaurants in the area is normally a good hint and it don't take 2 mins to nip into one and ask the staff where they get their stuff from!
