Or were you saying Cowell didn't get it right that year?

"Getting it right" is totally subjective anyway, unless you measure it in terms of financial success. Taking your example, Olly Murs is a likeable grinning buffoon who appeals to prepubescent girls, and it's given him a career, but Joe McElderry is a far better singer. Which was the "right" choice? I don't claim to know.”

Poorly worded post there. I did mean Cowell didn't get it right that year. "Getting it right" in the music industry is purely financial, you can have the best singer in the world but if you can't sell their records then that's it. Many of todays 'popstars' can barely sing live.

Sigh. People vote for the act they like best which is not at all the same thing as the best singer on a particular night. Surely that's no surprise? It's a popularity contest.

Well then Simon should create a Big Brother type of Reality show rather than a Talent show.

haha, Do people still actually believe the "public" even get a say? Voting is probably more rigged then the show itself is, Its about what the producers want not what the public want.

I agree with you really, but it is very difficult to prevent it being what it is - I mean obviously there are lots of things the producers and Simon could do to make it better or more focused on talent - but at the end of the day people will vote for who they like best.

I don't know whether or not you go on the Big Brother forum, but it is packed with people complaining that BB is not BB anymore.

Jut like BB, XF cannot resist tinkering with the formula. They couldn't just stick with a straight talent contest, they had to add twists, heighten the drama in any way they could until the singing became secondary to many other factors.

I watch the singing and the 'critique' and that's it - no VT or any of the other waffle. As a result, I don't know what people mean if they say someone is 'likeable' or not - to my mind that shouldn't come into it, but I know that others do and it really can skew the result sometimes.

I suppose you just have to accept that it is a BB type show. It's never going back, that's for sure.

In agreement with this as the Saturday night audience rarely vote for who the best singers are, so the whole thing is a waste of time in reality.

if the public could've been trusted then Honey G would've been straight out, as its going now I think Ryan and Saara as well as Emilly will be the 3 eliminated before the final, id love to see the press and the forum go into meltdown if Honey G wins

I'm a BB fan from the Ch4 days, although not from the very start.

I mainly post on TIBB to do with BB, I can get behind some of the new elements of BB if they're entertaining, the problem with Ch5 though is if they've got a decent Housemate, or a decent idea they won't let it go for dear life, I mean that last CBB almost makes Matt Terry look like his actually having to fight in this X Factor lineup because they favoured their chosen winner that badly.

This is what I do - I can't bear all the other bits, I don't care about them. Of course this may be why I don't object to Honey G as much as other people do....
