What has this got to do with Strictly? It should be in UK TV or Showbiz!

Shame she is hosting a Strictly clone. I wouldn't mind her to host Strictly if either Tess or Claudia ever call it quits. Good to see her still doing well.

As Alesha is a former Strictly winner it seems fair enough to discuss it here. The show sounds like a bit of a car crash waiting to happen (although I do like Ashley Banjo) but I dont think this is Alesha's first major presenting gig like the article says - she did that awful show 'Your face sounds familiar'. I don't remember her being great on it, but I suppose this gets ITV publicity from the Strictly connection.

They keep persevering with this woman, yet she is never a success. Puzzling

Must be doing something right in a music and now TV career.

A dance show with commercial breaks reminds me of insufferable Dancing on ice was.

Sorry Gill - you obviously aren't aware that Alesha was a winner of Strictly and subsequently appeared as a judge on the show too!

Even if she hadn't, I would still have been interested in the fact itv are doing a rival dance show. Stepping out did so well
I do think Glynis Barber would have done so much better on SCD.
The replication of "iconic" dances though does sound like a.DWTS theme week. Plus have they not all been used already for Beeb's Let's Dance for Sport Relief or whatever it was.

Already been done with let's dance for comic/ sport relief

Couldn't agree more!

Glynis Barber would have been a good choice for Strictly and looked quite impressive, but, in the format of Stepping Out, her husband, Michael Brandon, was pretty poor in their dances!

And had to laugh at your comment re "iconic dances" & DWTS - it really does sound like something from there doesn't it!

It's a paycheque I guess.

I think Gill's being sarcastic . A thread she started a few days ago about last year's winner's new show was moved to showbiz for no good reason. Well, I can guess the reason, but it wasn't a good one

I wasn't aware of that - thanks for clarifying things!

DWTS have done it but called it "famous dances" week (either because iconic was deemed a hard word or rather the dances were not that iconic. Except Dirty Dancing which they decided was a rumba ).

Dirty Dancing aside, they used:
Grease
Reynolds/Kelly
Britney
Vogue
Bee Gees
Elvis
Rhythm Nation
Hairspray jive
Bad
Try - Pink
Austin Powers
The Mask
Nasty
Jai Ho
Footloose jive

and...NSync's Bye Bye Bye

What's more, we have Dance dance dance in German and it has passed me by.

They have used week one
Grease
Beat It
JLo
NSync
Wannabe
Uptown Funk
Vogue
Burlesque
Timbersnake
Umbrella
Getting Jiggy
BeeGees

So I guess it really is replicate the music video, right?

In which case whoever does Love Is A Battlefield will get my vote.

I said that because my thread about Jay smashing it in Big the Musical was moved and I am miffed!

And of course I knew that Alesha won Strictly (I supported Gethin that year) and she judged the show. I have never missed an episode!

I wish her well but reading the outline of the show I'm afraid its going to be another in the long line of dance shows that won't catch on . SCD has nothing to fear from this .

Apologies Gill!

I did not realise that your post was somewhat sarcastic, based upon what happened to the post you made re Jay, until it was pointed out to me!

Apologies accepted - and Jay is still smashing it in Big the Musical. His acting in particular has been mentioned in reviews as being excellent.

Alesha Dixon.
The name sounds sort of familiar.
Remind me someone.

It'll bomb. She hasn't enough viewer appeal.

Is it to cater for Strictly fans "withdrawal symptoms?"

Now they can get all the dances going back several years on YouTube. Quality uploads by the BBC. They sensibly leave out most of the hype.

I don't think a presenter has enough clout to make a show live or die. If the show is good enough, it will succeed despite the presenter. Look at Strictly. It's presenters are not exactly that popular, but it hasn't damaged the show.

Having said that, the show sounds like a mish-mash of just about every other dance show that's been on tv in recent years - all of which have failed. But who knows? It could surprise us all

The original "appeal" of Strictly was Bruce Forsyth. Remember "Come Dancing," had died.

Never in a million years! The original appeal was despite BF.

Yes Come Dancing had died, but it survived for well over 40 years before it did so.

Yes but it died as the public and the BBC had lost interest. Strictly at the time, needed a big name to get it off the ground.
