Well Ed is learning all the steps and put everything into it, but he shouldnt be there now, time to vote him off and let the real dancers shine,

Actually Ricky was not likeable and neither was Natalie in her first year. I watch their dances back now and can see Ricky's talent, which I couldn't at the time because of him. Ali was a wimp. The series lost it's brightness when
Jade had to withdraw.

I voted for Chris that year after Jade had gone and was really happy that he won. I'd be even happier to see Ed in the final, and if it were still a four person final I reckon there'd have been a chance that he could have made it. Not so sure now, but I do feel as if the known universe needs cheering up this year, and Ed has given many of us more than a little levity over the past few weeks. More to the point I've been laughing with him, not at him.

One thing's for sure, he'll be a Strictly legend for ever and a day. ”

Hello fellow Jade fan. She was amaze balls! A difficult personality, as Ian discovered, but my she had the raw talent and being polished nicely. What happened to her was a travesty.

I don't think there's any comparison between Chris and Ed - Chris was younger, fitter, an athletic type. He couldn't make me "beam fit to burst" (as I think I've said elsewhere) like Ed does.

There's absolutely no comparison. Chris wasn't the greatest dancer, but he wasn't so incompetent that he had to be shoved into ridiculous costumes and ridiculous themes just to get through a dance. He just danced like everyone else. Sometimes it worked. Sometimes it didn't. Sometimes it went really badly. However he never went into "Comedy Contestant, let's bring out all the gimmicks" mode.

No, he wasn't the best dancer, and was the worst in the final, but considering Ricky Whittle was a nasty piece of work and Ali Bastion had a personality so dull it makes Louise look like Anastacia, it was kind of inevitable that he was going to win.

Here's the VT of their "journey" from the Final.

(Ah, yeah, I forgot that year the final had only him and Ricky, so it's even more obvious that Chris was going to win. Ricky was an ass.)

The whole Olachops carry on annoyed me beyond belief. I could hardly watch the pair of them it was so irritating (though a magnificent PR stunt so hats off to Chris for that).

In contrast I love Ed and Katya. I look forward to their dances each week.

I loved Jade, it was such a shame she had to withdraw.

It has never been as easy as it is now to check such a question, but here are some links so you can see for yourself the difference:

Showdance

Charleston

Samba starting at 2.13

I'll leave it to you to Youtube his fellow finalists Ricky Whittle and Ali Bastian

Oh- and his scores for the first 8 weeks were 26, 30, 23, 25, 22, 28, 29 and 34.

Ed's are 21, 23, 24, 16, 18, 26, 27 and 25.

Need to put a ballroom in there:
Actually his dancing is not anywhere near as good as I remember. I actually prefer Ed's QS.

I watched his samba and salsa again and he spends a lot of time wiggling his arse using his abdomen to create the wiggle. I don't think he demonstrates that much skill. He was ok but I prefer Ed.

We should also be considering how good they are on the show but off the dancefloor. Reacting to judges, speaking to Tess/Claudia, being funny and eloquent in VTs. They both score highly in all these areas.

I always find it amusing when people say Chris Hollins was a good dancer. He was mediocre at best. It was all smoke and mirrors (and Ola doing her usual distraction techniques, only then they were less familiar to us)

I agree. Chris and Ola made a better couple than Ricky/Natalie, who I found unlikeable, or Ali/Brian. Of course the best couple were Jade and Ian, who we lost too early. Shame that Zoe Lucker left as early as she did that series.

All of this. I didn't know who Chris Hollins was so had no pre conceived ideas about him. But I quickly came to enjoy watching he & Ola dance, and their VTs were pretty good too, I found him likeable, hard working and funny. He was my favourite for the win.

We're not saying he's a good dancer. We're just saying that he's better than flippin' Ed Balls.

In your opinion. Personally I think Ed is a better dancer. And much more entertaining.

Ed is far, far, more entertaining. It was the partnership that won it for Chris. He was a middling dancer and his Charleston ... which gets lauded to the skies ... was pretty pedestrian... plus he had zero swivel.

Was a sad day when she was injured. Best hope for Ian to get a win.

Didn't him winning have a lot to do with him being paired with ola? Plus ricky and ali sadly weren't 'vote pullers' like some of the other winners before and since.

Funny, I never warmed to hollins, yet Ed Balls (and katya) I find a 'guilty pleasure' tbh.

Well, Ricky was almost an anti-vote puller by the end of the show after he got arrested for assault, on top of just having a poor attitude on the show itself.

I honestly have no idea why he won. Do people really vote for a contestant based on which professional dancer they are paired with?

Same.

He won chiefly because people still had the flaming arse with the judges over Series 6 and wanted an underdog winner.
What name??

I can't remember him having a poor attitude. The arrest just before the final certainly ruined his chances despite it being from a pap who had a history of claiming assault by celeb and then dropping charges. Lots of people assume no smoke without a fire.
