I had no idea who Ricky Whittle or Ali Bastian were, same as I had never heard of Danny Mac or Tameka before this show, because I don't watch soaps.

Chris was a better dancer than Ed - Ed has had to go down the 'entertainment' route to get as far as he has.

Chris never had to stoop down to those levels to secure votes

In your opinion. Personally I think Ed is a better dancer. And much more entertaining.
Have you actually watched Ed's hip movement in latin dances? Very reminiscent of Craig Kelly Not for those of a sensitive disposition. Poor Flavia, stuck with someone who was totally deluded about their ability. At least Ed is more self aware.

Hollins is a better dancer. But I prefer Ed.

All that Hobbit stuff and Yeah Baby Mrs Jordan Yuck. It worked though. Sadly

Dance wise Chris was fractionally a better dancer than Ed is now. Chris was embarrassed lots of the time during his time on the show, so tried most of the time to dance in a way that was going to help lessen that feeling (like dancing more seriously when he could and not using a comedy crutch). He wasn't a great dancer by any stretch, but not the worst in that series either, and I don't think in persona or ability he and Ed are actually comparable.

Chris had the underdog tag as the comp went on and the popularity of his partnership with Ola became more apparent. They were the cute 'Hobbits', he called her 'Ola chops', they were underdogs against Natalie the 'new try hard pro' and Ricky the 'too good already arrogant up himself actor' and all the rest. Chris is a better dancer than Ed overall, and not all his dances with Ola were comedy themed, so he was a bit more varied in his approach. I think a lot of people still remember their Rumba, as felt quite touched by it despite him not dancing it amazingly (he did very little in the grand scheme of the dance) but I think it was more an emotional connection that won a lot of fans over to them if weren't fans already.
That's a fair summary. My husband said that Ricky Whittle was probably technically very good but Chris's dancing made him smile although Chris was a better dancer than Ed - I think the names could be subsituted and that's how a lot of people feel. There wasn't a dancer of Ed's standard that year - Joe Calzage and Jo Wood were a lot worse, I suppose Ricky Groves was probably closest in standard to Ed and he went for the comedy vote early on too.

Yeah, it's worth noting, when comparing him to Ed Balls, that his Charleston got 5 tens in the final!

Chris was about 4th best in pure dancing ability in his series so he is often spoken as the worst winner but he was still pretty good overall.

He won because of his partnership with Ola, his lack of dance background, his personality and the fact that the better dancers that year all had their own different issues.
Who would define as the 3rd best dancer though - oh yes the poor unfortunate Jade. The female Greg - better dancing, much much worse luck.

And more entertaining - Craig Kelly wasn't self aware enough to send himself up.

Actually Ricky was not likeable and neither was Natalie in her first year. I watch their dances back now and can see Ricky's talent, which I couldn't at the time because of him. Ali was a wimp. The series lost it's brightness when
Jade had to withdraw.
Hello fellow Jade fan. She was amaze balls! A difficult personality, as Ian discovered, but my she had the raw talent and being polished nicely. What happened to her was a travesty.
I totally agree to all of that - I too was a Jade fan. The only one who combined entertaining with talent. What happened to her was so sad Funnily enough I think I was a Cola supporter at the end but he was a consolation prize so to speak. The only thing I'd disagree with you about Jade is that happened was a travesty it wasn't - it was just sheer crappy luck.

Well Ed is learning all the steps and put everything into it, but he shouldnt be there now, time to vote him off and let the real dancers shine,
I've been watching both Chris Hollins' & Ed Balls' dances again and IMHO Chris was quite good and entertaining from start to finish. There was no awkwardness in his moves, as there was with Ed & JS. He deserved to win - and loved his facial expressions! There was something about JS 's diddy little feet and the way he used them that made me laugh. And Ed has a certain awkwardness in his body, which again, makes me smile. These things are their own individual traits and for me, works.

Watching Ed's dances from his first to his most recent, I can see a huge improvement.
Still loving watching his 'Salsa'.

Well, Ricky was almost an anti-vote puller by the end of the show after he got arrested for assault, on top of just having a poor attitude on the show itself.
He was short of time and it was enough most weeks to ensure the dancing was good but not enough to insert the characterisation into the dances on the floor or the charm offensive off it to ensure that people would really get behind him that coupled with a few pro who hadn't the fan base or knowledge the climate to do the same. He was a bit like Louise this year except at least has time and Kevin (who is very good at selling someone and a lot of goodwill at least with the judges) to help with that.

Chris had a lot of charm and a great relationship with Ola and he knew how to sell his dancers well.

Ali was a pretty dancer - who couldn't really sell party or drama particularly well - kinda of like Daisy was.

He won chiefly because people still had the flaming arse with the judges over Series 6 and wanted an underdog winner.

Ooh, yes, the whole AUSTINWUZROBBED! and SEMI-FINAL-GATE!! fiasco. There is still a whole lot of bitterness around over series 6

Back on topic... I liked Chris and I like Ed. Sue me. *shrug*

Oh my word Craig Kelly was SO boring to watch, poor Flavia really had her work cut out with him - it must have been like dancing with a plank!

I think she probably found him incredibly frustrating to teach and on ITT he was coming out with this weird stuff in the training footage and Claudia turned to Flavia and 'do you know what he's on about' and she replied 'haven't a clue'.

I don't think he was a difficult man just an odd one.
