I wouldn't be surprised if this is Pearl's only series as I've heard some whispers (from people who work close to the show) that correlate with the article.

This is what I find interesting. People talk about how Pearl will only do Series 10 but for some reason, then think Peter will stay on for Series 11 with Chibnall when it's likely that both will leave with Moffat or possibly Pearl will stay for some of Series 11 to smooth the transmission. That's what I think is likely to happen.
That's why, I think, it would be good for Peter to go after series 10, but if the character of Bill had managed to capture the audience affection, and Chibnall was wanting a bit of a continuity link, then it might be good for her to stay. Ultimately though, unless she's really great I think it might be best for Chibnall to go full clean slate and full on reshape things in his own vision, the way both RTD and Moffat had the chance to. |

Given that Chibnall will probably be producing his first series whilst Moffat's last is still going out, does he have enough time to wait and see whether Bill is liked by the audience or not? Wouldn't he need to have decided by the time series 10 is going out whether she's staying or whether he needs to cast a new companion?
In fact, the episodes will have to be written further in advance, and they'd need to include the introduction and development of a new character, especially if we're getting a return to the RTD style of exploring the companion's family and having them as recurring characters to make the show more accessible again. |

Frankly, if I were Chibnall in this situation, I would look at all the previous female characters Moffat has created and make my decision based upon my perception of them.
I have no idea what Chibnall thinks about all the female characters Moffat has created, but that's what I'd do. |

I think its always nice to see a companion 'straddle' the doctors (oh that sounds bad but you know what i mean
)The regeneration is more interesting when you see the companion having the shock of the regeneration then having to adjust to the new man. I think that Clara's reaction was pretty unrealistic 'not accepting the doctor' when she, of all the companions, knew how regeneration worked and that he would be different. But hopefully they will keep Bill on, as long as she is well received of course. |

Unless Bill's story has a very beginning/middle/end to it that gets played out in Series 10. I hate that she has to have Nardole there too. Moffat should've made sure the first half or two thirds of Series 10 was just the 12th Doctor and Bill. Adding Nardole into the mix might be a hindrance to Bill's rapport with the Doctor.

From what i've seen most seem to think if one person will go after series 10 it will be Peter. I feel for the 'clean slate' reasons that have been gone over many times on here that it could be good for them both to go, but at the same time, Peter is intricately associated with the same old, same old, of the Moffat era whereas, Pearl after only one series wouldn't be quite so much.
That's why, I think, it would be good for Peter to go after series 10, but if the character of Bill had managed to capture the audience affection, and Chibnall was wanting a bit of a continuity link, then it might be good for her to stay. Doctor Who star Peter Capaldi is in a pay wrangle with the BBC that could decide if he quits the Tardis for good. http://www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/d...apaldi-9508685
The actor – who is on screen as the Time Lord in *festive special The Return of Doctor Mysterio on Sunday – earns an estimated £400,000 a year for the role. But former Doctor David Tennant was pocketing £500,000 a year when he took on the role in 2005 and sources close to Capaldi think a “modest” rise would persuade him to stay. One source said: “He’s not asking for much. He’s a veteran actor who’s hugely in demand. "But the BBC has massively reduced its fees in recent years, while some key figures at the network have managed to retain vast salaries. “Meanwhile, BBC Worldwide have brought in millions selling the show abroad. He wants a little extra and is keen to hear what they come back with.” Capaldi, 58, has remained ambiguous about his future and earlier this month said he wanted to stay Doctor Who “for a long time”. But in another recent *interview, he said: “I’ve been asked to stay on and I just haven’t come to a *decision about it.” |

Meanwhile, a report in The Mirror from a few days ago (normal press and "source" caveats apply):
http://www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/d...apaldi-9508685 Secondly, if there was any truth to that article at the time the decision was being made, then that would make me think even more than he was going, because why would they pay more for an actor in an easily re-castable part, who has been the face of the show during a less popular period? Despite him being a quality actor, if I were the bbc exec making such a decision and Capaldi was demanding more money, and I knew I could reinvigorate the show and not pay any more than I was willing for the new actor at the same time, I know what i'd do. P.s It would also surprise me if he were wrangling for more money as a condition of staying, just because it flies in the face of all we've heard of it being his dream job and doing it for the love of it. |

I'm not sure I believe all that money dispute stuff but watching the Christmas special, there's a line the Doctor mentions about moving on and I can't help wondering if they're hinting at Series 10 being Twelve's last run?

Depends on Moffats final story for Christmas 2017.
If 12 does go on to S 11 he might have a regeneration in the early or middle episodes. Would be interesting to see a new doctor come in half way and adjust. 12 deserves a good final story, think he will die bravely and save a friend or a lot of innocents when he does. |

Peter Capaldi is a great actor, his performance in Children Of Earth in particular.
But the fact is he was not right for the doctor, nothing about his approach worked as well as the last three. And thank god that companion is only lasting for a series judging by what we've seen. I'm intrigued about what Chibnall will bring. |

Okay, that may well have been Broadchurch (series 1), but running DW is the biggest challenge. |

So you've decided that's a "fact", have you?
