so after rewatching episode six, I realised that when Karthik was attempting to negotiate for the lengha, he was basically trying to get if for free, right? is that allowed?

the whole point of the task is to negotiate, but I'm expecting that LS still expects the candidates to pay something for the items. would it still have been totally valid for him - or anyone for that matter - to get any of the items for free? would that be allowed?

No reason it shouldn't be allowed. Haggling is Haggling - otherwise they wouldn't be allowed to haggle full stop.

I thought he was trying to get it for cost, not free. Either way he looked a complete pratt.

Theres nothing wrong in getting something for free, didn't some team a few years ago get some rope for the same task for free?

Its more of a culture thats used to and expects people to haggle generally where as most people here just look at the price label and pay that or move on.

Karthik didn't think that so long as its the cheapest Lengha and it matches the rulebook who cares if its for an adult or a baby for example.

Yes, though in real life, getting stuff too cheaply (at or below cost) can be a bad move as your supplier will have gone bankrupt when you need to reorder. For some goods that are easily interchangeable, that might not matter so much as you can go to a new supplier.

Obviously doing over your suppliers will not last long term but this is a results show and probably a lot of places will take a hit for the PR value of being on TV.

Is the first series, Saira khan blagged a sky box (or some electrical item) for free. She went to an asian owner and played the asian card. Sugar was pretty impressed.

I am asian, and always haggle when in an asian clothes shop, well the wife does. I think they expect it. Once got a wedding outfit for the misses, the ticket price was £600, got it for £350 or £400 (cant quite remember now) cash. Then the wife asked for alterations.

Kartik would have been a lot better of speaking in Punjabi.

Instead of a 1970s comedy Indian accent

He was trying to get the dress for cost price, which brought that withering putdown from the owner - aka "F... off somewhere else". Suppliers might do that at the start of an going contract, but the deals in TA are really down to "being on telly" - it is like Dragon's Den in that respect.

I think his negotiation with the second vendor was good as I think he built a connection with her and was nice; with the first one, it was too cheeky and asking them to give him something at cost price was a bad move as they wouldn't want to deal with him again. I think Karthik is a very unpredictable character, he goes between very hostile and argumentative to being very personable and a smooth talker. It seems like next week, he goes down an inappropriate path when trying to do business so I think it could be his downfall.

I'm not sure his negotiation was that good. The other team stormed in, asked 'Where's your cheapest one' and were out in seconds.

Karthik probably also still has the loose cannon label so far as Lord Sugar is concerned, who will obviously not have seen the series so far in order to transfer it to Sofiane, as some of us have done. One more visit to the boardroom could prove terminal.

Others, like Frances, might have the opposite problem in that Lord Sugar barely knows who they are because they've not been brought back into the final boardroom.

Do you think the women could use sexual favours to get money off. During the cigar discussion the guy said "why oukd I do that?", do you think she would have been able to say "I'll let you have a feel of my tits"

Seem to remember on the US version many years, one girl offered to drop her skirt and did so - Trump took a very dim view of it.

I remember that, and it surprised me at the time (although not now, having learned more about the president-elect) that no-one made the case for keeping her and firing one of the others. Sure, what she did was highly inappropriate but at least she'd realised her team was losing and needed a game-changer even if the one she chose was unprofessional and damn stupid. But at least she'd seen the problem.

If Trump had put any of that team in charge of one of his construction projects, then sure, she'd need a card saying in case of emergency, keep your kit on and phone Mr Trump, but the other two might have blissfully driven it to bankruptcy.

I wonder what happened to her.

I would love one of them to say that. Probably be the last thing they said on the Apprentice though.

Whatever price he got, it would have still been a lot more than the other team paid, a kids version for a few quid on sale rack!
