I'm fairly sure Strictly's ratings have survived a comedy duffer's departure before.

The BBC and other programme makers including ITV, certainly gave him a few presenting jobs afterwards, on the back of his new found popularity. He's been very busy the last four years.
It's the hope of any presenter who agrees to go on that programme. But it didn't work out for either Naga or Laura.
Whilst Susanna Reid got a pay rise and less travel, she lost out being lumbered with Piers Morgan a fate worse then TV death.

Every year there is one contestant that captures the imagination of the viewers...last year it was Jay and very strangely this year it's Ed. I don't think people will turn off as such but for many of us when the 'must see' act has gone the show is less enjoyable. For the first time I haven't got behind a winner. There are four likely candidates and I don't care who wins.

I've never considered the loss of any competitor has hit the ratings. If it had, the press would have told us.

No, I was not suggesting the figures would be in the gutter. The brand is far too popular for that.
All I was suggesting was that there may be a slight reduction if I am not the only one who finds that Ed's dances and obvious improvement are the only things that brighten up the show.
You use the word serious so that is obviously the mood you are in on a Saturday Night. Presumably therefore you feel joy has no place.

BTW, as other posters (who know how to do these dances) have pointed out, all of these dances are far from authentic. Dancing it may be, but there is nothing Strictly authentic about it at all.

I agree with that Rutherford was lucky last week, his performance on Saturday was worse than Balls, if he moved any slower he would have been stationary, or if you like cheating. Balls will survive this week possibly next week until they need to start selling the final section, problem they have with Will Young going they are one semi-pro short when it starts to go serious so Claudia might go further than you think.
No I won't stop watching....Ed has been entertaining and has really provided the fun element this year but the show could not be taken seriously if good dancing went unacknowledged and unappreciated.

Not so according to some who post here and know ... The beginning was salsa and the final section between the third lift and the Gagnam ending. He may not have done it well, but he was attempting salsa in both sections.

I don't think the majority of people watching care, maybe on here they do but not in real life. Some people see Strictly as purely entertainment and not a dancing competition, myself included.
I love Ed, I won't forget him when he goes as I loved him ever since his 'Ed Balls' quote on Twitter. I won't stop watching it after he goes, although I probably won't enjoy it as much.
I hope he does stay in. I watch Strictly every year and wouldn't stop because one of my favourites has gone.
What I like about Ed is the unexpectedness. I never expected him to throw himself into it like he has. I also like that he works so hard at learning the dance to the best of his ability and he is better than many other of the ones with limited natural ability.
I think Katya is amazing at bringing the dance together and making them all memorable. The way the salsa built up from a very quiet start was awesome.
The two couples I look forward to the most are Ed and Danny for very different reasons but I enjoy them both.
I would love them both in the final - I want to see Ed's showdance!!!
