I agree and surely if caz is renting somewhere and has a bank account they could check this?

They can twist a tale to find a pair of scissors inside a great big industrial paladin, but can't see a camera in a front room.

Such lazy story writing. A brief bit of research would tell the writers you can't arrest someone for a murder without a bleedin body!! Next storyline should be Maria suing the Weatherfield Police for harassment.

I believe the Police can arrest you on the suspicion of a crime if they have suitable evidence.
However I don't think for one minute in this case they do. Kate Oates clearly loves Maria so it's a bid to give her character a more higher profile after years in the wilderness.. |

The police have obviously not done a background check on Caz, because they seemed surprised when she was referred to as being crazy, as the detective said something along the lines of "are you saying Caz has a history of mental health problems?", surely they would be aware of her being court-martialled and kicked out of the army.

That being said this story is ludicrous and totally unbelievable. They would be waiting alot longer to make any charges aswell as there's absolutely no evidence Caz is dead |

It's more difficult to certainly but yes people have been charged and convicted of murders without bodies previously.

The police should speak to Luke since he tried telling maria what caz was like, him and Kate. Does Luke even know what's going on because he doesn't seem too bothered that his ex who he apparently loved is suspected of murder.

There have even been cases where the "victim" turned up at the trial. |

You don't need a body to charge, or even convict, someone of murder - there have been lots of famous and gruesome cases where the murderer has destroyed the body and still been "caught" (and hung when we had capital punishment). Recently there were the murders of April Jones and Danielle Jones (no relation).
All that is needed is enough circumstantial evidence to convince the jury that the alleged victim is dead and their body hidden/disposed of and the only way this could have happened is through the actions of the accused. The police need to have carried out a full investigation, including of any alternative explanations for the Alleged victim's disappearance - one example of this would be the Azaria Chamberlain case in Australia, where baby Azaria's parents reported that a dingo had come into their tent when camping and stolen (and eaten) their baby. The police authorities didn't believe them, and Lindy Chamberlain was convicted of murdering her baby. 3 years later, Azaria's clothes were found inside a dingo lair and Lindy was released. In Corrie, I can't understand what Caz hopes to get out of framing Maria. |

Let this be a lesson to Maria that she can't just go around murdering Caz all the time.

While you can be arrested without a body, surely that wouldn't be so soon. Caz would first be labelled as a missing person

They don't seem to have noticed yet that Maria was on a train from London when supposedly murdering Caz. |

Who is there to report her missing? The police have decided that she has been murdered, on almost no evidence, so they don't consider her missing.

I haven't seen any of this story but it sounds like something SB would've come up with.

But it makes no sense that they'd decide she's been murdered. That's not the first thing you'd conclude, which means that someone would have had to go to the police and say that they believe Maria killed Caz. The only person who would have done that initially would have been Caz. Which is when the story gets borderline idiotic that the police wouldn't run any checks on the 'witness', you know, the fact that she's supposed to be dead...
The whole story is a mess and makes little sense If no-one knows where she's staying, no-one has seen her (unbelievably) and she's not using her own phone, having acquired the new one, there's nothing really to indicate that she's still alive. She's got no car to track and we can probably assume she's stopped going to the Job Centre. It may depend how she's paying for wherever she's staying and how long that cash will last now that Maria has stopped the card. |

Who will Maria murder next, I wonder? If she gets away with this one of course. Can't wait. ---------- Seriously, I am finding it all quite (low level) distressing! I really like Maria as a character, she's believable. Posters are quite right that the police can arrest someone on suspicion of murder, without a body, if they believe they have sufficient evidence. Making it stick is a different matter. Also, police don't always do their homework regarding suspects and victims, they obviously will at some stage. So the drama unfolds! What Caz is going to do with her pitiful life when this is all over I can't imagine. A lot of the stories about Caz don't ring true, one example is her being so destitute after being discharged from the army. She would have got some severance pay, three months at least, and she is a capable girl who could have got herself a job and a place to live. Even not being in her right mind would not have stopped her getting some cash to tide her over. That, to me, is more unrealistic than Maria being charged with Caz's murder. |

The whole S/L is farcical down to Johnny raking about the bin and the "coincidence" that the bin had not been collected. SB would have been proud of this thread
KO needs to have a serious clearout of the writers and inject some decent writers and perhaps recruit someone to do a bit of background research God knows how poor the quality will become once they go to 6 episodes a week On the plus side it will give us plenty of ammunition for the Corrie SOR thread, which is simply superb |

I did not see the Start of this Fiasco , How or Why Do the Police Believe Caz Has Been Murdered. Has Someone Told the Police Caz has been Murdered , With Caz being in the Army would the Army not be involved as Caz is on Their Books. Apart from No Body or Evidence of a Body being Found , How is Caz Just Not Reported as a Missing Person Which the Army could Confirm Due to Caz being AWOL For so Long, With when she was Found in Roys Rolls and was not Put under Arrest and Taken Straight Back to Camp. So many Questions i would love to hear the Answers too. By the Way i Used to Never Miss an episode in over 30 Years and now only Drift in Now and Then.
