Quote:
“The bankable chart-topper is said to have handed over one of his signature ballads to Simon Cowell, meaning this year's champion will release a fresh single in their quest to bag the Christmas number one.

Ed's signature acoustic ballad follows Louisa's cover of Bob Dylan's Forever Young, which peaked at a dismal number nine on the Official UK Singles Chart last December.

“Everything Ed does turns to gold," a source told The Sun. "To have him write the winner’s song is huge and amazing news for this year’s winner.

“All the remaining contestants have heard the track and it works for the majority. They can’t believe potentially their first ever single will be written by Ed.

“The only chance his song won’t get used is if 5 After Midnight or Honey G pull off a shock win. Then bosses might need to consider another one of their options.”

Honey G has been tipped to win the show by various sources while 5 After Midnight are currently trailing behind Matt Terry as the bookies’ favourites to be named the 13th winner of The X Factor.

How very borin. = Matt or Emily is the chosen one because they're the only ones capable of doing a song like that in terms of dullness - Emily will have her guitar

They never learn do they. They think because it is written by Ed Sheeran people will automatically buy it. It will be some thrown together song like the one he did for One Direction, which even a lot of their fans think is one of their weakest singles.

i bet ed sheeran would swap all the critical and commercial acclaim he has had to instead have been a one hit wonder from a reality TV show but not be considered bland and boring ...

A honey G ed sheeran song?

They must be very confident that matt or emily will win with that choice.

Thank god.

I was worried it'd be Rise Up, that song doesnt deserve that.

I don't think the problem is that it's an Ed Sheeran song, it's more that it's a song which seems to be geared towards Emily and Matt, who (coincidentally!) are the two who have been promoted as the 'winners' the show wants (Matt from the first live show and Emily from Halloween week). I'd much rather see all the final 4 (or however many there are when it gets to the stage where they record the single) given their own song, which suits their performing style.

Like last year, its also an insurance policy.

Reggie and Bollie were done for the second they had to sing that song in the final. It was the insurance to make sure the winner was Louisa. That pair trying to stand and sing in the final was perhaps the most cringe worthy thing I have ever witnessed on TV.

Honey G, Ryan or 5AM will have similarly disastrous attempts should they make the final.

I get why honey g wouldn't release an ed sheeran song after the debacle with reggie and Bollies song last year but why 5am? It this them pretty much admitting they can't sing a ballad together? It cannot be that it won't suit them as it didn't stop them making little mix release cannonball.

I mean this song will only suit Emily and Ryan as artists as they are the ones who gig with guitars. Saara can make anything work. If it is like thinking out loud then it could suit Matt a bit but it's not a perfect fit for him.

Matt will just falsetto the song to disguise his poor vocal.

Emily has a shot, as does Ryan.

Saara I don't really see being able to pull off an Ed Sheeran song to be honest, a little too subtle in style for her, but I could be wrong.

And hahaha at not letting 5AM and Honey G try the song out, I thought that they was great Simon? His clearly scared that they'd both sound awful, it's like series 11 all over again where they was gonna do Unplugged but then changed it because Fleur would've sucked at actually trying to sing.

The show is so obvious every year when it's trying to protect one of it's pets.

I can't stand her but even more reason to vote for the fake rapper

So the savior of XF Christmas #1 will be someone who would have been booted off the show because he doesn't look like a star. I love the irony!

Does that mean they don't want 5am to win then?! I can't see Emily winning anymore. Her popularity is decreasing more than Matt's. Matt still has a chance if he smashes it this week!!

I knew Matt Terry was gonna win The X Factor. That said, I love the fact the final got its worst TV audience ever.

Oh, Happy New Year DS!!!

(yes, 6 weeks premature but we all know this is going to be the outcome).

Poor Ed Sheeran. Is anyone actually going to be streaming Matt Terry's winner's single endlessly on Spotify? Of course not. Mariah Carey's All I Want For Christmas Is You is going to chart higher than Matt Terry.

Stop going on about how Matt Terry is not going to be successful with his single. None of them are fgs! Who's going to download Saara's? I certainly wouldn't! None of them are going to do well...

...but not all of them are going to be releasing a winer's single.

Do you really think Saara could win The X Factor? It's so obvious whose won and that's why people are moaning about it.

In fact, if Saara wins The X Factor I will buy the single, take a screenshot of my iTunes confirmation e-mail and post it here as proof.

That's how sure I am of Matt's victory.
