iplayer hd and ITV hub on HuaweI DN360T
Because I have cancelled my contract with Sky in order to still have access to ITV hub and CH4 on demand I have connected a brand new TalkTalk YouView box sent to me a couple of years ago by them but never used.
On air the box works fine giving good hd pictures, however on catch up I cannot get hd pictures only sd the software is up to date the settings are at best pic quality available. In an experiment this morning I tried iplayer BBC2 on last nights drama NW,it was only in sd, using my smart tv on iplayer it was in full hd and this scenario is the same on ITV hub. I have tried interchanging the ethernet connections to both units but results remain the same my download speed is 8.5. Is this a common problem with YouView. |

Have you been into the configuration within the iPlayer app and selected HD?

Just a question... how do you know the iPlayer streams are in SD?

I have been told that my Youview unit is displaying the current up to date options in video quality settings and my other units are showing the older offerings. |

Simply because of the very poor picture quality, my two smart televisions ( sony w905 ) perform perfectly as does my Humax hd recorder ( hdr-1800t ) and for the moment my sky boxes when viewing the same catch up/ on demand.

I have just compared the picture quality between a recording of Planet Earth II from BBC1 HD and the iPlayer on a Huawei Youview box and really can see no difference, both are defiantly HD.
I I am at the moment on hold to TalkTalk in South Africa ! trying to resolve the problems I will report later. |

After talking almost an hour to TT tech in S Africa they are to send an engineer to me in a couple of weeks, from England I hope !
As regards the picture quality of itv hub it seems there are a lot of folks who find it poor quality, I realise now that having used it before via the Sky platform I have been receiving it in far better quality than is possible for the moment at least on Freeview. |
