I think it needs to be slowed down, but in any case it just has completely the wrong feel for a VW.
It's certainly not a romantic song, but then we did have oom-pah-pah last year!

Louise's Paso has the potential to be epic. That's a big piece of music. Kevin's generally very good at Paso's. I hope he puts his foot down and refuses backing dancers as the two of them dancing to that music at Blackpool could be great without the distraction of others on the floor.

Having said that I think the music is intended to be Argentine Tango music as there are people dancing the AT in the video.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HiaOFOMPOBc

It's not so much that it's unromantic. A VW should encourage the dancers to fly across the floor in a lilting waltz. This is just a bit too heavy in its phrasing.

Yeah I can see that,it is a very "big" song. Will wait in anticipation to see what Joanne does with it, imagining in my head more an American Smooth approach but I may be wrong!

Ore and Joanne will be dancing the Viennese Waltz to ‘That’s Life’ by Frank Sinatra
Ahhhhh wonderful, great dance for Blackpool and a great song. I agree it's not a classic light song, but I don't think it's terrible for a VW, there have been worse! Plenty of potential in terms of choreography/storytelling for Jo.

The rest of the music allocations range from distinctly average to a bit rubbish, but worst by far is Greg & Natalie's Quickstep, which doesn't seem to me to be a Quickstep at all!

Here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HiaOFOMPOBc

It sounds like a great track for a Paso Doble.
Even though the dancers in that video were all doing an AT 😀

Is that for each 1, 2, 3 or for a group of three quavers? Only I was thinking the exact opposite it might need to be slowed down a bit as it's usually played around a dotted crotchet being 80 which would make each 1,2,3 at 240 beats per minute which is a tad quick

I can't hear it as a foxtrot at all, but I guess it does depend on which version you have in your head. If you have a hip hop version in your head, then no that wouldn't fit a VW
we use the standard Frank Sinatra track as a foxtrot in the the school it is classic foxtrot

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KIiU...97974232CACD9D

was not thinking of the remix to give you an idea two vids below

vid 1 v. Waltz at 60bpm
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YK58zgAEmgA

vid 2 Fox at 29bpm
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=setXCAdNYOg

as you will hear Thats Life much more foxtrot than VW

Why does the list say that Puttin' On The Ritz is by Gregory Porter? I have never thought he would sing that!
It's not a patch on Gene Wilder & Peter Boyle's version, in the film Young Frankenstein.

Gregory Porters version is a quickstep https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EaftvX6vX08 but have no doubt they will play it more like the Pasadena Orchestra's version which is Charleston https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5jeI8sJyRw
Thanks for the link. It was a better version than I expected.

When I hear this song I always think of Damien Molony's version in Being Human! Done in one take I gather!

Claudia and AJ will be dancing the Jive to ‘Hey Mickey’ by Toni Basil
Danny and Oti will be dancing the Charleston to ‘Puttin’ On The Ritz’ by Gregory Porter
Ed and Katya will be dancing the Jive to 'Great Balls of Fire’ by Jerry Lee Lewis
Greg and Natalie will be dancing the Quickstep to ‘Hand Jive’ by Sha Na Na
Judge Rinder and Oksana will be dancing the Salsa to ‘Spice Up Your Life’ by Spice Girls
Louise and Kevin will be dancing the Paso Doble to ‘Explosive’ by Bond
Ore and Joanne will be dancing the Viennese Waltz to ‘That’s Life’ by Frank Sinatra
I love Hey Mickey so look forward to Claudia's jive. Also very excited for Ed and he has a good toon. All the others are good but Born to Hand Jive is not QS music. I don't like Louise's paso music and the official video for the song has people tango dancing. Puzzled about the Frank Sinatra number as well. It would seem the ballroom numbers are worse so, Greg and Ore for bottom 2?

Ah, good ol' Hal. He was one of my favorites. (I miss that show a lot.)

Thanks for those - still hear it as a very fast VW even in your foxtrot one , but it is a very slow 4 too! Now that I have the 12/8 in my head I can't unhear it All they will have to do is slow it down - or they will be doing a very whizzy VW!!

Well, the video has couples doing the tango, so.....

But it's a fast tune with a lot of classical instruments, their signature, so it could perhaps work for a Paso?
Louise and Kevin get another huge advantage by dancing to the only instrumental track of the night, just as they did with their Argentine Tango. If it had been up to me they'd have got Agadoo.

I agree

Not trad paso music but very dramatic for Blackpool dance floor

No pop song for them whether cassic pop or not

people will say they are not favoured till they are blue in the face and I wont believe them

I predict 4 tens, no need for undermarked shouts this week

Looking forward to Claudia most of all those, but can see everybody else working bar Ore and Louise. Although that might just be because I hate "Explosive". Horrible cheap-sounding ersatz crap.
Paso to Explosive

Big floor, best paso dress, big dramatic instrumental, I can see the audience lapping it up and the judges wetting themselves ready to dole out the tens

no generic pop song for Louise and Kev

I predict 4 tens and if they dont get them I will show my bare arse in Debenhams window

I agree with you, I knew they wouldn't get something unsuitable like Claudia did for instance. Definitely four tens ahead for them.

Why did they not give Puttin' on the Ritz - an authentic QS - to Greg and Natalie ? I will be interested to see how they arrange "thats life" for Jo and Ore as its a Foxtrot...
Its quite clear that the person that chooses the music knows nothing of dancing and the required tempo etc. They just choose something and make a dance fit. Its quite ridiculous -should leave it to the Pro's.

I'm hoping that suddenly in the semis onwards, Claudia will get the best tracks and win this thing!

My thoughts as always in bold

Claudia and AJ will be dancing the Jive to ‘Hey Mickey’ by Toni Basil - Oh for the love of 80s classics, brilliant song but I feel so very sorry for this pair now with their song choices which emphasise their youth

Danny and Oti will be dancing the Charleston to ‘Puttin’ On The Ritz’ by Gregory Porter - Back to top quality music for Danny then after last week's debacle. Not sure it suits a Charleston though.

Ed and Katya will be dancing the Jive to 'Great Balls of Fire’ by Jerry Lee Lewis - Great song for a Jive, hope they are allowed to dance to it without gimmicks

Greg and Natalie will be dancing the Quickstep to ‘Hand Jive’ by Sha Na Na - Okaaaaay then. Why not a Jive to it?!

Judge Rinder and Oksana will be dancing the Salsa to ‘Spice Up Your Life’ by Spice Girls - Great song, seriously overused now

Louise and Kevin will be dancing the Paso Doble to ‘Explosive’ by Bond - Fabulous song for a Tango or AT so will be interesting to see the Paso version

Ore and Joanne will be dancing the Viennese Waltz to ‘That’s Life’ by Frank Sinatra - Ahh Frank actually getting the credit this week! Gorgeous song but a VW? Not sure it works.

No is isn't it is nothing like a paso - the ones with the most appropriate music are Danny and Oti
Hope its not going to be as slow as this though...

Yes me too, I'm hoping she'll get the first Craig 10 with the praise "Darling, the girl became a woman with that dance". Though perhaps not the jive.
