Anyone started stocking up yet?
What have you bought? I'm planning on getting a bit of booze for the festive season in next weeks shop. Probably a bottle of gin. Yum. |

It's time to make fruitcake! There. How is that?
I have the huge jar of Bajan Black Fruit I made last year to work with. Not really, Olde English Traditional, but delicious all the same. |

On sheer principle of the rankness of the chocolate I will no longer be buying a tin / tub of quality street or roses.

My husband and I were discussing what we plan on ordering for xmas and Boxing Day. We've decided on pork for xmas lunch fit our main, probably melon and ham to start then a chocolate mousse tree thing for pudding. Boxing Day will be a fish platter, nothing too heavy.
He has given a list of things to his dad to send over from Spain. They do some lovely Christmas treats over there. My husband loves chocolate so I'm doing him a chocolate gift bag again which will have a big array of chocolates. I usually get given loads too so I'm not planning on buying much chocolate beforehand. My xmas eve delivery slot is booked with Morrisons already. This will be for fresh items excluding the ordered food which my husband said he would collect 23rd or 24th |

Got the turkey, stuffing, gravy, a roast (for New Years), panettone and some wine so far. A nice dessert wine (not sherry) can be hard to find if I wait too long so I picked it up today. The rest of it is veg which I'll get closer to the day, plus something for afters, Not a fan of Christmas pudding or anything with marzipan.

Why on Earth wouldn't we be allowed? It's the best thing about Christmas.

Christmas hasn't been just about religion for many years now. Lots of non-Christian people celebrate it, bring their family together, share a nice meal, and exchange gifts, etc. Go in any shop and walk down the Christmas aisle and tell me how much of it reflects anything to do with Jesus or Christianity. However it might have started out, it is now very much a holiday for people of any (or no) religion.

I like to think of Christmas as Yule, the old Pagan festival from before the Christians Hi-Jacked it. I'm not at all religious and no one I know is but it's cool to put up a few decs, eat loads of nice food and drink some nice alcohol.
The Yule log was a tree that they used to burn to keep them warm for a couple of week apparently ![]() It brightens up the cold winter so it's fine by me. |

It was stir-up sunday yesterday - traditionally when the Christmas pudding is made.
Well and truly in Christmas food mode now! |

Mid-winter festivals were important in raising spirits

![]() The Oak King & Holly King share power from the summer solstice to the winter solstice. They could both be aspects of the Green Man however
